OU Softball

The thing that this team did to demonstrate that it was #1 as well as to prepare for the tournament was to play the best schedule that they could play. No other preseason schedule even comes close to OU's in intensity. These are the pre-conference games against top twenty-five teams played by each team in the World Series.

Notice that the SEC teams played a total of three games against top twenty-five teams in the pre-conference schedule.

OU played ten (8-2) non-conference games against top twenty-five teams. Michigan had seven (4-3), and Nebraska had six (2-4). Washington was 1-4 in five non-conference games against top twenty-five teams. Texas was 4-1, but they lost to some other non-ranked teams, as did some of the others.

OU's only losses were to Texas and Kansas in conference and Louisville and Nebraska in non-conference. Only Kansas was unranked.

I think at the end of the top of the eleventh, Gasso was wondering why she hadn't sent Turang home on Lauren's double.

And I am thinking that Gasso was influenced by just that in the 11th inning, when she allowed first Martinez to go for third base (barely made it) then Parsons to try to stretch the double into a triple. She, of course, was thrown out easily.

Gasso probably was ruminating throughout the game about the lost opportunity with Turang in the third inning, probably thinking that as good as Renfroe was pitching, "seize the moment" because the next batter is likely out...

Who knows? Had Gasso held Parsons at second, would Turang have knocked her in with two out? We don't know, but Turang in the bottom of the eleventh as leadoff with no outs, delivered a chopper over Chavanne.

I think that Gasso decided that she had been too cautious in the third inning and decided to go for it in the later innings when the opportunity presented itself... All speculation, of course...

I tend to agree with this. I also think that the failure to send Turang suggested a hesitance that plagued OU all night long, until they had no recourse. We were very tentative on our swings at the plate. A couple of times, check swings resulted in ground outs. We weren't attacking. By not attacking then, did Gasso set a tone, or was it an indicator of how they felt?

I didn't have one view that showed where everyone was on that play. I thought the shortstop got the ball in shallow left, but pretty deep for where a shortstop should be cutting it off, and had not yet thrown it. From where Turang was, a third of the way to the plate, would a throw from that deep have beaten her? It would have had to have been a rocket, and an accurate rocket at that. Then, the catcher has to catch it and tag her. I might have forced the issue unless I had a very poor vision of where everything was.

I do not have a problem with her not sending Turang early in the game. However, I do with her decisions in the 11th inning. You do not make the third out of an inning at third base. Martinez just barely made it to third. She was already in scoring position at second base. If she had not made it we lose 3-2. It was the same thing with Parsons, but whether she made it or not, the game is already tied and we go to the 12th inning.

WT....??? I go to bed with Tennessee up 3 -0 and still batting and come home to see OU won? Thank goodness it is being replayed on ESPNU right now. Now that I know the outcome, my nerves might be able to take it.

It's Michelle!!!!!!

I thought they said Keilani last night. Michelle may have more problems with the Tennessee left-handers.

Michelle C. will start on the mound for the Sooners. I expect Tenn will go with Ivey.

First base was open, they should have walked Rickets. I'm glad they didn't! :)

Just for fun, let's get a little insurance in the top of the 7th...

4-0 with Tenn coming to bat in the bottom of the 7th. This one is in the bag. :)
