OU/Texas

That would have been a foul on who---Atkins? They gave several calls to her tonight. You would think she was Candace Parker. She kicked into Carter on one play, with her knee, got the shot and the foul. It was totally on Atkins.

I think OU should be quite willing to pay Sherri's fine if she calls them out. It's time to call them out.

I didn't think the call where she kicked out her leg was anywhere near the worst. It would have been hard for the official to call it the other way - since all 3 were out of position for the call and had blocked views. Plus it had likely been made very clear to them that if they wanted to call anymore games this year they had best know what state the league office is in.

But 3 times the announcer made it clear that even she knew the fouls were being fixed by saying things like "that one could have gone either way". She was really saying "that official is changing the outcome of this game" but knew she would face serious consequences if she spoke up with the truth.

Texas had some girls who played very well tonight, but most especially Brady Sanders, the redheaded guard. She out-quicked us to the basket numerous times tonight. Played very well.

I really agree with you Blackwell. I really liked the way she played tonight. She always competes but is not always quite as effective as she was in this game. I enjoy watching her play.

It was very telling that after putting us in the bonus early in the second half, the officials went over 8 minutes without calling a foul against Texas. Usually, if something like that happens, one team is playing a zone - like KSU last night.

There were some questionable calls but I don't think it was nearly as one-sided as some seem to think. We were called for 29 fouls and they were called for 25. We shot 23 free throws. They shot 24.

Go back to the OU-Texas game in Norman. We were called for 21 fouls. Texas was called for 27. We shot 36 free throws, they shot 27.

Texas is like a lot of teams that don't shoot well. They turn it into a physical game, and they are the rougher. In the run-up to the game, I posted that Texas had a tendency to get into foul fests. It is their best opportunity to win since they don't really shoot well.

Since we let them have some layups tonight, they shot better than usual. But, Texas should probably have been called for about thirty fouls while we should probably have had no more than twenty. We weren't inducing the fouls.

Yeah, the stripes probably got the memo during a time out after the 11 minute mark of the second half: "STOP CALLING FOULS ON THE HOME TEAM!!!"

...Sure seemed that way, huh?

This ^^^^^^^ I've never bought into the idea that "since the fouls are close to even, it must be right". If the more physical team has the same amount of fouls as the other team, then the refs are being intimidated by the more physical team.

And tx made a few three pointers tonite that I doubt they normally make.

I believe Scott Yarbrough lives in San Marcos and owns an Insurance Agency. I also believe he lived in Austin AND Waco.

Obviously, owning such a business would mean his very livelihood depends on good relationships with all the people in that area. That leads to the question - why in the world would he be assigned to - or accept - a game involving Texas? It is as obvious a conflict of interest as there is. The Big-12 office has to be aware of this - and that leads to the question - why would they make that assignment?

This would be about like assigning 3 officials who work in the athletic office at OU to call the OU - Baylor game, then acting surprised that they favored OU.

You need to read the writings by the NBA official who was put in prison for throwing NBA games. Look at what he says happens before games - and how officials are "schooled" on how to call the game. And how assignments are sometimes made so no "schooling" is required.

The infamous official in the TT football game in Lubbock was an insurance agent, too.

Do you know the name of the NBA officials book?

When Morrow was at Baylor, her aunt's husband was a Big Twelve official. But, he also worked the Missouri Valley. Fortunately, he had enough integrity not to work games involving his niece. I wonder if Kim knew this? She would have insisted.

I totally despise Kim Mulkey, but I wish sometimes that Sherri could work the officials like Skeletor does...

i didn't want to bring it up but i wonder if Baylor would have had these issues tonight. Sometimes when Sherri is "getting on the refs" I'm not too worried about her getting teed up.

That one drive where she hesitated and finished was a killer. She was solid all night.

I'm just happy to see a thread on the women's board with 295 responses.

I agree, it was a good play, and she got away with it, but to my eye, she stutter-stepped and would have been called for travelling had I been officiating.

I agree, lots of traffic on this thread, Syb... but only 195, not 295, I believe.

The officiating was poor, but one must admit Kay Kay and Sharene commit really silly fouls. And I use the word silly to be kind. Upper class men should know better.

We didn't get beat, we beat ourselves. We should have put the game away in the first half. Failure to finish a beaten team is a huge mistake.

She wasn't over the back. VV had to take Sanders and Lang out reached Ortiz for the ball.

She reached over her BUT hit her in the head. I replayed it a couple times and Easily she hit her in the head. Just sucks to not get Real calls.

I mentioned somewhere during the game that although the calls weren't helping us when you pile on fouls you shouldn't commit and you're asking for trouble.

I felt we lost the game at the end of the first half. We were up nine and let them have three layups - plus a fourth one that came after the horn. We could have really buried them there.
