OU vs. Florida 11am CST on ESPN

Most of the conference teams don't look that scary... This team defends and rebounds well, so they will be a tough out for every team. I would be surprised at this point if they finished worse than 5th.

Maybe the wheels fall off or something but again, based on how they have played so far I think they are going to be pretty good.

It looks like he can create that open shot after trying to penetrate at the top of the key. I suspect when he has more games under his belt we will see him be less reticent and take that open shot more.

Agreed. He had a really nice stop and pop. And the defender recovered really well and made it a tough shot and he still laced it. Very composed kid is my early read imo

Very nice also seeing Calixte nail those 2 final FTs with no problem. Very nice early tell on his abilities

I agree with all you say..Should be a fun season

I hope you are right but I'm guessing if you went and read game threads early in the last year, we were talking about how great the team looks and how they play well together.

Things can change quickly, and i'm not holding my breath that we will make the tourney.

Some of you guys have short memories

Oh, I remember all too well. But, this is a different TEAM. It’s obvious they know that basketball is a team sport. Last year’s team seemed to forget that for the last half of the season on.

This team will not forget what got them a 4-0 record to this point of the season. I have been saying from the start OU will be much improved on defense. Was I wrong?

I like your optimism but last year scarred me too much to believe what I am seeing.

And you have been right on with the improved defense. they look great so far

Especially after he sat out most of the game in foul trouble. Hard to come into a game you haven't really been a part of and make free throws even if you are as good a free throw shooter as he is.

The way this game played out gave us several good benefits going forward from Bienemy being solid in relief at the point to Odomes using his driving ability to break down the defense, Manek rebounding even when his shot isn't falling, etc.

Last years team started real strong early but just couldn't keep it going. Hopefully this team is set up to be stronger as the year goes on because it's a deeper team.

It’s almost like the opponents caught on that we were a one man offense

Reynolds I thought had a few nice passes towards the end, but man I can't stand the way he plays on the offensive end.. I'll say this 10 more times this season lol.. I really like our length.

Good solid win today. I know we are only 4 games in but I really like the look of this team. Great effort on both ends of the floor.

So far Calixte and Bieniemy have been better than I thought they would be. I know Bieniemy is a freshman so there will be some up and down moments, but I love the way he plays. Also, he is a much better ball handler than I thought he would be.
Calixte is just a solid PG. Really good fit for this team.

What do you mean?

Agreed. Hes prone to taking some selfish shots off drives where he clearly predetermines that hes gonna shoot it regardless. Did it twice in nearly a row in the very end of the game with lots of time left on the shot clock and with us up.

Kruger should have stepped in and managed it by subbing him out after the first one imo... into a double team too

Reynolds has nice speed with a very fast 1st step. Yet to be determined on his finishing off of a drive tho. But some reads on when hes done it have been suspect. Hopefully hell get better at picking and choosing or kruger needs to step in

I love the way he plays. He’s simply trying to get to the FT line

Granted he struggled today

Reynolds averaged 6.2 FTA per game last year (and only 9 FGA per game)

That’s his game. Reynolds plays a little out of control sometimes, but there is a reason he is on the floor at crunch time. Our two grad transfers are also two of our best free throw shooters.

Killed them on the glass, played good defense, and after the first 10-15 mins, did a much better job taking care of the ball. Great effort by RO, and Muni was key. Another game that must have been disappointing to some of the posters who have been conspicuously silent since the season started.

100% agree. If Muni plays this hard all the time this is a good team. Beat a very solid team with Reynolds & Manek struggling to score & Calixte in foul trouble, really shows the depth quality of this team.

My only problem with that is hes not really forcing contact on those drives so not really forcing the issue of making the refs give a call

He got raked bad on one of those drives, all the coaches were going crazy on the ref. I like that he stays aggressive going to the hoop, made some nice passes as well.

Bieniemy was a very bright spot in the game. Handled the pressure pretty well. Had a couple soft turnovers you'd expect from a freshman. He looks very natural as a PG. Didnt some say on here he never has really played PG? Very impressive handles. Dribbled and created some really nice looks. Im a big fan of bieniemy. Prolly will have some freshman games, but he well be very clutch for next year with a full year of experience (and hopefully some weights ha. Hes so skinny looking!)

I said that he didn't play PG on his HS team. Maybe for his AAU team, I can't say. But he didn't for his HS team. That team did play through Bieniemy every time down the court and in clutch time, the ball was in his hands. I saw what a good passer & decision-maker he was. He has done a better job handling the ball than I would have thought this quickly. Hopefully he can keep it up against good, tough, Big 12 guards. Florida's are very good though and, formthe most part, he was very good today.

Last year's team shared the ball on offense very well at the beginning of the year but they never played defense and never rebounded well. They gave up nearly 90 to Omaha & barely beat UTSA & North Texas at home.

Good defenses ended up making OU 1-dimensional on offense. This team isn't as reliant on 1 guy and is a damned sight more mature. This is a different team.
