OU - Washington

There was one play in the fourth quarter that showed one of the problems. Plum drove the left side of the lane against Maddie. Maddie almost blocked the shot as Plum put it up, but she was about two inches short and half a step behind.

Last year, we won because Maddie blocked that same driving layup from Plum twice, once with four seconds left, to seal the win. After the block, Osahor fouled her, and she hit two free throws for the three-point win.

If Maddie hadn't injured her knee-----

Well, they are flat out better than us.

I was stunned at the poor play of Vivi when she was in. She seemed intimidated (Washington was good, however inside).

I thought Peyton was the only player who showed up tonight.

On to next year and we must hope for better from coaches and players.

ViVi is a completely different player when she goes up against bigger players.

Carter played well until she had to sit with 4 fouls. I like Dungee's willingness to shoot, but she did toss up some bad shots.

The women's game is getting more athletic. We aren't which is why we're no longer 1st tier. It is pretty obvious the staff had no idea what to do with this team. The seniors just never improved. I think that Kornet's departure was an indication that something was amiss. I don't believe this team is close. I don't think they believe the best players play.

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but when ViVi came off the last time Sherri had to put her arm out to stop her from walking by. That's just not ok. Maybe she was spaced out, but it was obvious Sherri wanted a few words and ViVi seemed to be disinterested.

This off-season should be the toughest the returners have ever faced. Next year, starters should be able to play a minimum of 30 minutes. Mistakes must be eliminated too. Turnovers are killers. More than 3 fouls weakens a player's ability to play aggressively so silly ones aren''t acceptable. Not sure these changes can happen without staffing changes.

I know you love her Syb and she's a terrific kid by all accounts, but it's time to admit she might have had greatness in her, but injuries stole it from her.

She's a good player who sometimes has games where she is great.

She's not the only player on this squad that has been like that
over these last 3 years, but Sherri needs to move her to the bench as a graduate assistant coach.

Sometimes......

Think.
#1 scorer Maddie
#1 steals Maddie
#1 3-pt % Maddie
#2 rebounder Maddie
#3 Assists Maddie
The only guard (other than TT) to shoot over 40% from the field.

When your team shoots lousy 70-80 percent of its game being a stat leader isn't that hard. I Look when she's getting those numbers, Syb, against weak teams 9-10 times. Not hard to be 2nd place rebounder on this team when no one else rebounds.

She can't lead. She disappears in every big game

Those numbers don't lie I just think when most teams think of top players they think of a consistent player that makes good things happen consistently that's the Magic word. Consistency. Everyone doesn't have a 30ppg plum but most top teams have a kid they consistently turn to to give the team the lift they need to stop runs without the ball or start them with the ball. It's just hard to define that player on this team. I think that's what most people believe Maddie should be with those stats.

Maddie is a good player and statistically she is among the leaders of the team in many facets of the game. However sometimes being at the top of a list only indicates how poor those below her are performing.

I don't Maddie think is ever going to lead this team to any team successes. From a team perspective it might be beneficial for her to move on and allow the 2018 team to put a new face on the team and develop young players for future years with the target to seriously compete for the conference championship in 2020. Anything sooner than that will take a miracle in my opinion as I do not see the needed roster depth for 2018 necessary to be a contender.

T'T, Dungee, Williams and Wyatt combined for 53.8 m/g this year. I do not see Williams, Pellington, Rich and Penzo capable of giving the Sooners that many productive minutes. I don't see Penzo being productive period, Rich is an enigma, Pellington is still a question mark but could be very productive.

In the front court you have Manning and Vivi with Mulkey and Idimgbe as backups. I discount Treece because of her health concerns (5 m/g). Simpson to me is another question mark and I expect little from her in 2018. However were Maddie to move on that would open up about 30+ additional minutes for Mulkey and Odimgbe to more rapidly develop their skill set preparing for 2019 and 2020 in Mulkey's case. I think that would be good for the Sooners long term.

I don't expect it but would be thrilled if OU could compete for the #3 spot in the league in 2018 and approach the 13-5 record we had in 2017.

Maybe now some of the ones that refuses to believe that OU program has taken a step backwards over the last few years can see it now. Sherri Coale takes the players that are the easiest to recruit to Norman. Until proven other wise her and the women program are pretty much irrelevant on the national scene. Maybe it's time to change our goals for each year and hope for third place in the big 12. OU looked like the old Atari game while making Washington look like PS4 game...I wouldn't pay her over 600k for what she does..too bad if she doesn't like it.

This senior class never made it past the round of 32.

The problem isn't Maddie.

Kornet's played a lot as a freshman, less as a sophomore and even less as a junior. Now she's on a team that goes to the sweet sixteen.

Derrica played quite a bit as a freshman, then less and less on teams that didn't shoot well.

All this while they substitute like crazy.

The transfer from Kentucky played what, two minutes since she became eligible. All while some players keep making the same mistakes over and over.

I think this team just goes out to play, no real cohesion and I think the coaches lost this team sometime ago. I don't believe the players listen to the coaches and the coaches don't demand they listen or sit out. By listen, I don't mean just hear, I mean respond to it.

After reading some fans comments, I think expectations are low. Folks don't believe anything will change. I hope they are wrong. With 5 players leaving, this is a great opportunity to change the culture by setting expectations and holding non-performers accountable. Geno wouldn't tolerate repeated mistakes. Nor would Mulkey or any other top coaches. Women respond to tougher demands, just like men do. If we want to be among the better teams, Sherri has to be more demanding.

Excellent analysis.

Maddie isn't a "problem," and I never said she was. She's a good, solid player who occasionally has great games.

I just think we need a changing of the guard, if you will, and a new mindset for the players.

Well, I would say we are having a "changing of the guard" with Gioya, TT, Peyton, & Derica leaving. In fact that is a lot of guards.

Honestly though, guard play is not what hurt us when we struggled this year. Inside play did.

I am shocked about a couple of things:

1. We never found any way to even experiment - not even 1 minute per game - in fact, not even 10 seconds per game - with Vivi and Nancy on the court together.

2. We could not teach anyone to toss the ball to Nancy once in a while so she could shoot. I will guarantee my 101 year old grandmother could make that pass once in a while. I do not understand that inability. Over her head, at her ankles, etc. What in the world were they practicing?

I was happy about how well we shot the ball - especially in the first half - last night. But WU had an exceptional shooting night. I will guarantee you they will not have terrible shots fall in the basket like some did last night. It was just their night shooting wise. It happens occasionally.

Do you believe female officials are easily influenced and controlledby female head coaches?

Only a few. And a few are intimated by male coaches too. Fortunately a good number are balanced and committed to consistency.

But just be patient. If it keeps progressing like it has been, in a few more years there won't be any female coaches once it gets to the sweet 16.

Are you saying male coaches are better than females? I had never give it a thought about whether a team had a male or female coach in the sweet sixteen until you made that comment.

I'm sure others likely heard this, so, I'm not making this up. Just about 30 minutes ago while scalping daughters yard, I'm listening to
Steve Marshall and James Hale on my headphone radio. They were discussing OU women's bball and the state of where things are with the program and recruiting. Steve Marshall says, and these are his words, OU has slipped from a Tier 2 program. And James Hale says, OU is no longer relevant on the national scene. On recruiting, Hale says that SC can get in on a few difference makers, but, can no longer close on them. So,it is not just a few of us malcontent, boobs, on a message board seeing and saying the same things.

What Hale is saying has been true for the past several years.
