OU - Washington

James Hale is only interested in football and admits it. He isn't even knowledgeable about football. Why not solicit an opinion from Kim Khardashian. Same relevance.

So where do you think the current state of OU women basketball program is?
Fine, Sherri Coale is great and is one of the best recruiters in the game?
She has got lazy and hired friends, she and or others can not get the job done?
Please don't give any history lesson again on what Sherri Coale has done in the past because just like what you said about Kim Khardashian. Same relevance.

It's up to Boren and Castiglione, as well as people like the Stilettos who are major supporters of the program. Fortunately, it is not up to message board wanna-be's.

Well at least some are not afraid to post what they feel is the current state of the program.
Good thing for some of the coaches or entire staff that I'm just one of those "wanna-be's"

First on officiating. Don't believe that cost us the game. But I have long held that some officials are intimidated by home crowds and certain coaches. I have done studies that showed in visitor and home matchups the home court had an average of 14 points advantage. While unfamiliar courts and baskets play a role I think at least some is due to officiating. Also I believe fans have a built in suspicion of officials.

Second for 2 1/2 quarters I thought we were playing our best game of the year. Payton, Carter and Dungee were shooting beyond norm. Then we reverted to form and started taking rushed shots and silly turnovers. And even a bit of looking in fear of taking the shot.

Clearly our program has retreated to level 2 if not low level 2. And I am considering low because of the thrashings we take at times and losses to the Oral Roberts of the world.

First recruiting:
No question that the foursome of Carter, Wyatt, Kellogg and Edwards has been at best inconsistent and at worst weak. Going into last nights game they collectively played 41.2 minutes a game, scored 13.6 points a game and collecte 8.8 rebounds a game. That is a total of four players.

Their previous full season (sophomore for Carter) they played 70.5 minutes, scored 22 points and garnered 9.5 rebounds per game. The lack of improvement of those players is very concerning. Either they are incapable of improving or we are not teaching well.

The next year we improved. We brought in ViVi, Ortiz and Little transfered in. Williams and a healthy Treece offer some hope if they can get on the court.

The following year we brought in EJ on whom the jury is still out. Would have been great to use the one ship available to recruit over the existing squad.

This year it was Dungee and Mulkey and the mysterious Rich who is said to be the best shooter on the team but can't get off the bench on at best an average shooting team. But a concern here as well. Dungee started the season playing a good game within herself. Now she is making bad decisions, wild shots and silly turnovers. She did play a heck of a game last night and even hit her wildest shot.

Next year Llanusa who seems to have a good game on all levels and better than any recent recruit. But will she play smart after being in our system and will she grow in the program. The other two did not seem to be in gread demand.

I think a big factor is that the game has changed. Better athletes and better coaches. Can't get away with the type of play and players we have typically had.

You are correct James Hales primary interest is OU football recruiting. He is much more knowledgeable about football than you perceive. Unfortunately he sees everything through such crimson colored glasses that his recruiting perspective is tainted. He consistently sees talent signing with OU when their interest in OU is far less than being at the top of their list. I cannot speak of his X's and O's of the game.

I do know he attends virtually all of OU WBB's home games and on occasion goes on the road but not with like he does OU football or MBB. He frequently personally interviews OU athletic prospects, their coaches and their families that are mostly football prospects, followed by MBB, WBB, baseball and softball. I have personally listened to many of these interviews in all sports. He also has regular interviews with Sherri on his radio show. James has knowledge he just cannot see things with an open mind. He sees only crimson and cream like others I know.

While James is definitely not the know it all expert on WBB and WBB recruiting he is far more informed than many if not most that post here. And yes he does have access to those within the program on a semi-regular basis that you and I have never had the opportunity to speak with much less question in an interview.

To compare James' opinion on OU WBB to Kim Khardashian only manifest your jaundiced perspective of those whose opinions are different than yours in an effort to discredit them.

Hale may attend games, and he may even interview prospects. But, he is constantly asked to look into whether OU is recruiting a prospect for women's basketball or softball, and he has no clue. He is asked about the status of players, and has no clue. His typical response is that he will get in touch with the program in the next few days and find out, which he rarely does.

Women's sports do not pay his bills, and he has no interest in them. He tends to have a negative opinion of Sherri and the program, which is interesting only in that he has any opinion. I get the general impression that he is "tolerated." By the time he finds out anything about a prospect, it has usually been announced on twitter. I think he did one story about women's recruiting last year, and I have no idea as to the accuracy of the information. We didn't seem to be involved with any of the prospects that he mentioned.

As far as women's sports go, he is, as described, about as knowledgeable as Kim Khardashian. Now, if he wants to overcome that, I would like to see some improvement.

Liked "your jaundiced perspective of those whose opinions are different than yours in an effort to discredit them".

is Kardashian a convicted felon? Don't think so. She garners more respect than Hale.

Didn't know you and Kim had so much in common.

Are you saying male coaches are better than females? I had never give it a thought about whether a team had a male or female coach in the sweet sixteen until you made that comment.

I certainly never said that. And I do not believe it.

I am surprised you are admitting publicly that you are not very knowledgeable about the teams in the Sweet 16. As a start, how many male coaches and how many female coaches will you see in the OKC regional? I bet you can give a very good estimate of the number of female head coaches in the men's game. What is your estimate of the number of female officials in the men's game? How many females are either head coaches or officials in the men's bracket? Hmmmm.... By the way it has little to do with skill. There are a ton of really lousy head coaches on the men's side. I bet you can even name a bunch of them.

It has been slowly progressing that way since the WBB game has been allowed to become so much more physical and rough. Generally speaking, male head coaches are much more comfortable with rough, physical, aggressive play than female coaches. It is certainly not always the case but is a strong tendency. Ask yourself what coaches in the Big-12 over the past 15 years have been known to coach aggressive physical play?

If you watch officiating, it is also the male officials who tend to allow (encourage?) rough, physical play. Again not 100% true, but a tendency.

I believe the women's game would be much more enjoyable to watch if it was a cleaner game. Look at the people who attend WBB. It tends to be couples, kids, especially young kids, lots of folks in the latter part of life (over 50 or so), and they generally do not like the shoving, pushing, grabbing, etc. but instead want to watch a well coached, cleanly played game. You can wish it were not true, but it is anyway.

Officiating has made it harder and harder to be successful playing that type game. The NCAA knows that - and hears all the complaints - but has had an extremely hard time getting the officials to call the games following the recent rules changes and points of emphasis. Replace lots of the male officials with female officials and it will change. Unfortunately, it appears to many that the "good ole boys clubs" that tend to run conferences and especially officiating wings of some conferences (like the Big-12) do not show the willingness (or is it courage?) to enforce the cleaner officiating style.

Syb, you are out of your mind.

James Hale is no expert on OUWBB, but he is knowledgeable and has some contacts, which is probably more than you.

He probably is "tolerated" just like all press is in every sport. But I think he is knowledgeable He is a one man show and can't be everywhere. Additionally, Sherri and the program aren't very forthcoming, just like most coaches.

Any comment that he doesn't like Sherri and the program are the rantings of a blatant homer and more akin to the blathering of an idiot rather than someone who has logical thought.

OUWBB is part of his bread and butter and Hale isn't going to jeopardize where he gets his bread and butter.

This program has problems and any rational human being can see it. You don't go from playing for national championships to finishing 3rd in the Big 12, barely making the tournament, and getting knocked out in the second round and have things like that happen for a number of years straight and think everything is going perfectly.

You are smarter than that.

You diminish yourself and your words with posts like that.

If SC can't or won't make changes, it may not be too much longer before, you, the Stilettos, Boren, and Castiglione have the LNC all to yourselves for home games.
