Our Schedule - SOS

true, but under no circumstances should we make excuses for Chaminade. That should never happen no matter what else happened that weekend

With the way Chaminade played MSU, I had a feeling that we were going to lose that game. Plus the kids are playing their 3rd game in a row and theres no way that they aren't at the beach enjoying a special time in their lives. Its probably the 1st time for the majority of the players to be in Hawaii...I'm not giving them an excuse...I just understand all the things that happened. Even if all the fans don't agree...those kids deserve to have some fun while they were there.

It makes you look worse..b/c then your on ESPN and having Joe Lanardi, Gottlieb, J. Williams...etc...telling everybody that we haven't played anyone and that we aren't any good and that we padded our schedule. You don't look any better when your on ESPN getting ripped.

Why not play a tough schedule...find out how good you really are and then go from there. Your not helping anybody by playing a crappy schedule....you don't help your chances(the committee will see right thru it), You don't help your team with this year or the next.

This assumes we were going to win enough conference games to get into those discussions. Since that wasn't happening this year, I would rather have a couple extra wins versus the 0-3 at Maui. Replace those 3 with home wins and wer are 15-13. Same team, but it makes everyone feel a little better.

I don't quite understand this. I mean...we didn't make it last year to post season..so???
Last year was a disaster at every level. Capel gets a lot of a pass for last year because he couldn't have known the character of his players according to those here. I don't really get that philosphy but he's getting a past for last season. A pass on 3 teams that don't make the post season isn't going to happen. There's now way Capel lasts another year without post season next year. Probably shouldn't last even if we make the NIT which is going to be hard.

It didn't help KSU in 06-07 when they were in 10-6 in conference and 22-11 over all...They went to the NIT...Why b/c they played nobody OOC and their in-conference wins weren't that great either.

That's my point. We were never going to be a tournament team this year. Just wasn't going to happen. So why not get the extra 3 or 4 wins and end with a winning record? In a year that we know we will be in the hunt for a tourney bid, I agree wholeheartedly with you. Unfortunately this was never going to be a year like that.

3 teams...I mean, you guys just keep throwing his 1st season in here like it was all his doing. Sampson left him with nothing. When he took over this squad he couldn't keep Reynolds and James and it was too late to go get any quality players...I was impressed that he was able to get .500 with that team.

Last years squad...We lost Warren...Do you all not understand what that means to a team. Losing your best player. I wonder if Burks went down early in the big 12...Would Colorado still be a bubble team?!?! Lets just go down the list of teams that could actually lose their star player and expect to make the tournament. We just beat Texas and he's out for the year...and at that time Texas was 10th in the country.

You guys really expect Capel to be a miracle worker.
Sampson bolts and leaves you w/ nobody...no excuse
Your best player gets hurt and is out the rest of the season...no excuse
3 guys leave for a professional team...no excuse

That team with "nothing" had a lot more than people credit for it. Nate Carter didn't play till conference play for some reason and started averaging 16 a game. Austin Johnson, Taylor Griffin, Tony Crocker, Godbold were all good players and parts of the improvement we had. We lost those and Blake suddenly we lost a ton of good players. We basically had next to nothing after Capel got his players in. A lot less than we had when he got here.

Those guys became good players, but let's not pretend like they were a finished product that first year.

True but there was a lot better guard play here than we have now. There was a lot better size than what we have now. A lot more skill than we have now.

It's so much easier to say that now because we've seen AJ, Crock, Godbold, etc careers play out. Size was a difference because of Longar and Taylor's athletic ability. Other than that, comparable teams.

We also had Nate Carter who scored 16.4 ppg in conference, Mike Neal who was hurt still scored 10 a game. And we also had Keith Clark already signed. And 3 others already signed that were highly recruited.

Three more easy home games would have been better for this team, no question, then and now.

Not really. Davis is better than any guard we had then. Clark and Pledger are close to the production of AJ and Crocker. The only thing they had over this team is a deeper bench...but talent wise...it was nothing to brag about.

You really think Davis is better than AJ or Crocker?

I don't.

I'll even go as far as to say that Godbold MIGHT be a better player than Davis.

You, for whatever reason, grossly overestimate Cade Davis and Steve Pledger.

Anybody know what our SOS was the last 5 years or so?

My guess is it was pretty comparable. When you play 2-3 games against teams like KU and UT every year, and another several games against ranked Big 12 teams, it's going to be difficult to have too much easier of a schedule.

Pledger would hardly play for Kelvin Sampson. He is nothing but a 3 point shooter who is very inconsistent. Too lazy to play defense or rebound.

I'd take Godbold and AJ in a heartbeat over Pledger. They are both 3 times the player Pledger has performed to be in his 2 years save 1 game (ISU) and that's because he was making shots.

I can think of 2 games off the top of my head we wouldn't have won without Godbold (KU in 2005, and Tech in 2008, and I would bet more exist). I can think of 1 game in Pledger's 2 years we don't win without him (ISU).

Exactly...but the whole Maui tournament was not good for this years team. Having to play Kentucky, then Virginia...and having to play Chaminade in their own back yard...just wasn't the greatest thing that could have happened to us.

Chaminade and Virginia are horrible. No reason to lose those games, none. We should beat Chaminade anywhere, anytime.

I agree with the others, we should have bowed out of the Maui tourney and scheduled 3 patsies (which would have been tough games for us to win based off the results of the C. Ark and Maryland Eastern-Shore result), but we would have 3 more wins and probably more confidence going into conference play.

Davis as a Sr. is way better than AJ as a Soph and Crock as a Frosh. Not even debatable.
