We know he can recruit(to Memphis atleast) but can this guy coach? He has a crapload of talent and barely made it into the tourney(had to win the cusa tourney to get in). After roaming their boards a lot of tiger fans are calling him Quinn schnyder 2.0

I don't want him for that very reason. OU needs a coach that can coach, first and foremost. If that same guy can recruit really well on top of that, great. If not, fine.

He is still young and learning, yes Capel was the same way, but Capel's dad wasn't the AAU dominator of Houston hoops. Pastner has a direct link to Houston AAU ball and would immediately upgrade talent.

Yes sounds like the Capel position again, but he obviously can get the players to mesh together better. And yes to the fan that said he had to back into the tournament, but did you know out of his top 8 minute getters for his team, only one is upper classman and is a junior? LOTS of young talent on that team, which I bet keeps him to stay

yep, id rather have a guy that doesn't get the five star recruits but rather develops the players than someone like capel or pastneur that gets the studs then just lets them play AAU ball

we need a slam dunk
:teabag

He would be a fool to leave Memphis. He has a stacked roster and fan support.

The only thing I've seen that could intrigue him is money. Right now he gets $815K.

You can forget Pastner. He has a better job right now. No one leaves Memphis for OU.

It's funny how much the attitude of people has done a 180. At the end of Kelvin's time, people were so infatuated with landing McD's guys that they couldn't get rid of Kelvin quick enough.

Brown grass, brown grass, both sides.

yep...and quite a few people said "beware what you wish for"

it is funny but i grew up only knowing Sampson so i loved him.. i wasnt even aware people whined about him

I want a coach that can land top players and coach. Pastner would land lots of top talent from texas because of his dad. I would be happy if he is OU's next coach.

I think the smart OU fans knew what they had with Kelvin and appreciated what he did for OU. Sure our style of play was hard to watch at times but I loved the fact that we just beat the living $hit out of our opponents.

The problem where a lot of the Sampson haters came from is the NCAA sanctions and leaving our program the way he did.

Pastner would be my choice....young and a tireless recruiter and great coach!!

BIO:

Josh Pastner is the son of Hal Pastner, a local AAU, high school coach and basketball promoter in the Houston area. Josh knew he wanted to be a coach since the 5th grade. By the age of 13 he was publishing the Josh Pastner Scouting Report of local high school talent in the Houston area. At the age of 16, the Houston Hoops AAU squad was turned over to Pastner by his father, his first job as a head coach. While an AAU coach, Pastner coached future NBA players such as Emeka Okafor, T. J. Ford and Daniel Gibson.

Not to mention he was lead recruiter for Cal at Memphis. Be brought in the players that made it to the Championship game. Say what you want about NOT wanting 5 star players, but he recruited ones that made it to THE GAME. Granted Rose was ruled inelligible, but he sure was good. Plus that is more on Cal and the boosters than it is on Pastner.

Pastner was a guy that I was looking at when Capel got hired. Memphis is just a "dirty" place...saw their AD get interviewed, looked like a guy that was just as likely to order a hit on a guy as be an athletic director.

Kind of my thinking as well. It's rumored and we've had violations....why bring in another dirty recruiter?

Honestly, I think the program itself is corrupt. Pastner never had any problems while at U of A [where he was when Capel came here I think]. Problem is that if we got him, every time U of A came open...sound familiar?

OMG...WHY would you wanna hire a disciple of Loot's girly-boy defenses?

Quit looking for names and 5 star recruits people.
