Can anybody close to these kids we have signed and transferring in give any info on if they have seen them play and what you think there talent levels are, would be appreciated!!!

I will start off by providing a list of the newcomers.

Freshmen (3)
> Kristian Doolittle ... 6-6, 215, F ... Edmond, OK (Memorial)
> Kameron McGusty … 6-5, 170, G … Katy, Texas (Seven Lakes)
> Matt Freeman … 6-9, 220, F … Auckland, New Zealand

JUCO Transfer (Junior to be)
> Darrion Strong … 6-1, PG … Coffeyville, CC

Division-1 Transfer (Sophomore to be)
> Austin Grandstaff … 6-5, 200, G … Rockwall, TX / Ohio State

Note that Matt Freeman and Austin Grandstaff are already on the team as redshirts, and have been practicing with the team since January. Austin Grandstaff will have to sit out the games played in the first semester next season, so he will not be available to play in most of the non-conference games.

Here is a link to the OU press release on the November signees:

I went to a couple of OU practices where I saw a bit of Matt Freeman (6’9”) and Austin Grandstaff (6’5”). Both look to be really good shooters. I am sure more knowledgeable folks can provide better insight.

Kameron McGusty was the highest ranked high school recruit in the recruiting class.

I know the Sunrise coach and posted information on Mcugsty probably 2 months ago.. The program at Sunrise is amazing and there are a ton of college players going through there. Both D1 and D2

grandstaff will miss only 6 games likely and can play on DEC 17th

Everyone that I have talked to who have seen Doolittle's recent games. put him closer to 6-8 than 6-6. Able to be an athletic stretch 4. Physically in great shape.

Granted, it's an extremely small sample size and I make no claim to be a talent scout, but based on what I saw from Grandstaff Wednesday before the team left for Houston, he's going to be hard to keep off the floor once he's eligible. Austin shot it as advertised and actually ran the point quite a bit for the scout team and looked pretty good. Judging him next to the other guys, he's every bit of 6'4". It looked to me like he could stand to add some weight/strength, but otherwise I was impressed.

Freeman, at least to my untrained eye, has a lot more work to do. He's a good shooter, but he'll get physically overwhelmed by bigs in the conference.

. . . . .

Of course, this is true of many bigs when they enter the Big-12 or other major conferences. They often have to mature and get a bit older and stronger to match up against older college post players.

In college football, talented "skill position" players can often play as true freshmen, but this is much more rare for offensive linemen. The offensive linemen redshirt as freshmen, more times than not.

There are of course exceptions, in football and basketball. Kevin Bookout could bang against the big boys pretty good as a freshman. He was a thick and strong dude as a young guy.
