Porter to.........Villanova???

OU is a top 25 program historically. As us diehards know.

The problem is Joe C. He needs to retire, or he needs to hire some kind of basketball AD/GM, and become hands-off when it comes to hoops.

His hires have been mostly awful (and his Moser extension even worse). Lon Kruger was fine but that was like hiring a Great Value coach at the time (aged, his time at UNLV was sort of stalling a bit, OU needed stabilizing). As we know, Buddy became an all-timer (and Lon gets the credit). Then Joe C let Lon stay too long. In reality, after the '16-17 season, Lon should have been forced to retire. His ending sort of led to Moser's rough beginning (fuggin' Cortes & Noland were recruits, lol)

Anyway

My biggest issue isn't losing Moser....I would 1000000000% go to his house and help load the moving truck. For free.

My biggest issue is what will change?

If Joe C is the AD, controlling OU MBB, NIL/rev share will be short-changed, and it's more likely that he'll hire another mediocre HC.
@StoopsBros I agree with you 100% on where OU ranks historically.

And I know from past discussions on this board over the last couple of years, you and I agree on the multitude of problems that exist with OU basketball outside of NIL- which is THE major roadblock- from admin support to marketing, to creativity, to attracting fans, to enticing and involving donors, to in-game experience, etc. The problems with OU basketball are much deeper than the coach, the arena, and NIL. And until some of them are addressed, beginning with the AD, things won't change a lot.

IMO, it also would help if OU would embrace the history much like LK did. Kelvin did it, too. I mean, let's be real. There is nothing around Norman, the campus, or LNC highlighting a lottery pick right now. Nothing on the outside of the arena (like a statue or even a big freaking plaque) admiring the greatest player to ever play in the state of Oklahoma. Should have named the court after him or something. And finally, 3-4 of the greatest players in the history of this program does not have the number retired or any real individual recognition- Hollis, Buddy, and maybe Trae should have their numbers in the rafters and maybe Najera.

But all of these issues get to the core root of the problem- the admin doesn't really support OU basketball.

Because of that, the history means nothing. I mean players today, even if it isn't just about the money, were under 10 years old the last time we made a FF and Buddy Hield was dominating college basketball. It's because of an AD who thinks his commitment means setting behind the south basket every game that we have no hype, no buzz, no NIL, no arena... and no top coach. And if PM had a $6M-7M NIL, which is what is needed for any coach to turn it around, maybe he could too.

For those reasons, I may not be all the way on the side of @IndySooner but I see his point. If PM leaves, which I'm ambivalent about, I'm afraid nothing changes, or only changes slightly, because the infrastructure and support is not there to attract a coach that can REALLY turn it around.

I don't think the money is going to turn on as long as porter is the coach at OU (and i very much hope i am wrong )

Not at his current job, which is the relevant comparison since Moser has been coaching for 18 more years than Tang.
Year 2046:

Sunshiners/PM at pm's 2046 annual end of year press conference (complaining about missing the tournament bc we lost our last game to south carolina by 1 bc we made a layup on our own goal): "Yeah, but pm made a final 4 in 2018 (28 years previously)".

100%.

And unfortunately, Joe C has a buyout of almost as much as PM- $6M. At this point, he's collecting his $2MM annually as Sherri Coale did by relying on past accomplishments.
With the new structure in football, he's blocked himself out of the picture by bringing in Randall Stephenson as volunteer CEO and Jim Nagy as GM. (Perhaps BMDs forced Stephenson on him...I don't know)

Wish he and OU would try something similar with basketball.

Lol, in all seriousness I think a lot of people who are rabidly anti-Moser are missing that most of the vast “pro-Moser conspiracy” are actually pretty ambivalent but find the constant gnashing of teeth & forced discussion about Moser’s shortcomings on every topic related to OU bball insufferable. Here is a thread about him leaving and instead of naming possible replacements, the same 3-4 people want to high five each other about how shitty Moser is.

Feel free to post away of course, especially the super shitty takes (early stage BH is mediocre) and beaten horse refrains (we’re an inbounds play away from competing from SEC titles).

Running from shitty takes and childish name-calling is what a message board is all about at the end of the day.

I was ready to show Porter the door after the LSU loss.

i'll believe pm to nova when i see it.
but crossing my fingers.

I’m still interested in the Flying J fundraiser if we’ve got any takers for the co-main event. I will fight @WichitaSooner for final say on Buddy Hield’s sophomore season and an autographed photo of he and Porter Moser.

If he wins I will name my firstborn child Uzan and admit that Moser doesn’t take full advantage of inbound opportunities.

See it all at “NIL 1: Hell or High Water”

His entrance will be running right through that culture wall.

100%

Joe was good in the old era. He’s never been a fundraiser, and fundraising is the key in this era.
This. The game has changed. It's all about the money.

At our level, we won't do this, but Radford (VA, Big South) hired a barely experienced coach whose dad is a multi-millionaire. Zach Chu is an analyst for SMU, but has experience working in analytics with Rick Carlisle with both the Mavericks and the Pacers. Chu played sparingly as a walk-on at Richmond, but was a three-time state champion tennis player at Highland Park HS. Most importantly, his dad is a billionaire, having built the Tricolor chain of used car dealerships. Chu is bringing his own NIL.

It's all about the money, no matter what level you are at. We're not going to hire a guy that can't coach, but we better have the ability to fundraise for NIL.
