Porter to.........Villanova???

Would be perfectly fine with Moser leaving for nova and ou collecting his buyout. I won’t pretend to know who the next coach would be but I would hope for McCollum.

My prediction is it would be a difficult coaching search that yields someone who will not move the needle much for the donors/fans.

Well, its not like JoeC doesn’t know how to hire for his baseline. I predict there will be zero drop-off if PM leaves.

At the pinnacle of JoeC’s vision for OU, a beautiful stable place not unlike the flat plain at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Giant cliffs on all sides, and an AD who loves the sunsets with those in the background. No one even has to see the NCAA tourney from where we normally camp now. Who wants to climb those anyway? It was hard enough to make it down here.

The problem is Joe C. He needs to retire, or he needs to hire some kind of basketball AD/GM, and become hands-off when it comes to hoops.
This times infinity.

Maybe we should listen to the opinion of a national champ!

Oh wait that would mean you’d have to admit you’re clueless.
in fairness he also was the guy that told them to hire Neptune ....

and Switzer was the guy that wanted John Blake hired at OU

Yes, former coaches don't necessarily make great hiring recommendations. It tends to be a good ol' boys club most of the time. I would trust Jay Wright to coach, that is about it.

In the scenario that Moser does leave for Villanova... who are some coaches you guys realistically see us targeting?

Right.

Like Wade just did to NCST and DeVries did to Indiana.

You want me? You have to be committed to winning.
And herein lies our problem. Porter, Lon, Jeff and Kelvin were all promised things that never happened. At some point, the basketball coaching circles stop believing you.

no one on this board foresaw joe c going after lon or pm prior to the last 2 coaching searches.
i don't remember but i don't think capel was on anyone's radar either.
so good luck guessing the next coach...

I learned a long time ago that legends should NEVER be allowed to pick their successors. From a psychology (not to mention EGO) standpoint, they don't want their successor to achieve quite the same levels they did. I first heard this logic back in the 1980s when Minnesota Vikings head coach Bud Grant hand-picked a guy named Les Steckel to be his successor. Steckel was so bad that he didn't make it past one season (extremely rare occurrence 40 years ago). That's when I first read a long article about not allowing a legend to name his successor. And over the past 40 years, I've seen literally nothing to counter that argument.

Jay Wright should have had no say in his replacement or any future Villanova head coach. Props to Moser if he can somehow land this coveted job, but I am having a very difficult time believing Villanova isn't going to set their sights higher than Moser or Collins.
