Possible transfers

13-10, 10th place in the ACC Duke?
Goldwire is nothing more than a warm, veteran body.

How is a guy that started in the ACC, was near the tops of the conference in Ast/TO per game and steals per game and all ACC defensive team a warm body?

A guy that can come in to run the point for one season that the younger guys can learn from and not take all the pressure of running the point from day one in the big 12 conference would be a very good thing IMO.

On top of that, the freshmen would have to go against him, harkless and Moe on a daily basis. Talk about learning in a great situation. Obviously the concern would be scoring so the other transfers (if there are any) can hopefully answer some of those questions as well but I don’t see how a guy coming from that level with the results he’s had would ever be considered a “warm body”??

Doesn’t fit the narrative.

Which narrative are we referring to? I personally think this is exactly the type of player you want for year one with a depleted roster.

Doesn’t fit WT narrative

Above is spot on. Agree we would love to have him.

Warm body comment is a bad take!!!

You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine.

He was a part-time starting PG on what was EASILY the worst Duke team since 1983.

NINETEEN EIGHTY THREE!!!!! That was 38 seasons ago.

I said warm body b/c he doesn't move the needle. Getting him vs not getting him probably doesn't change the outlook of the season more than a game or so. I literally think we could let Gibson or Harkless run the point until Cortes or Mason were ready, and not be that worse off. That is the definition of a warm body.

Every wonder why a "starter" from Duke is transferring?

If we get gold wire, we have a top 5 defensive backcourt next year. Count me in

Doesn’t fit WT narrative

Again, what narrative is that?

That I think Moser will struggle to recruit? I'm not sure how anybody could argue landing THIS guy, given our competition, proves otherwise.

I know some of you are back on the "The OU Coach Can Do No Wrong" train. But I'm not sitting there alongside you. I still plan to be objective. I still have concerns.

And my argument/disagreement to that is you aren’t going to fill the 5/6 spots you have open due to guys leaving early/transfers due to the coaching change/etc with ELITE top guys at this point for year one.

But if you told me you can take a top defender from another Power 5 conference that started a lot of games the last two years and he doesn’t turn the ball over I’d say count me in every time.

He doesn’t move the needle cause why? Because he doesn’t score a lot? His list to play for isn’t that great to the naked eye? LOTS of guys and other teams wanted Bishop and the guy averaged 11 pts/6 rebs a game for Creighton. I would have argued that they were a solid team but nothing spectacular and yet some analysts are saying what a great get that is for Texas. It’s not always just about numbers (especially scoring) but what other intangibles a guy brings to the table. One of the lists I’ve seen in ranking guys remaining has Goldwire ahead of Harmon. Clearly Harmon shoots it better but Goldwire MUST do something well in order to be ahead of harmon and some other “big” names on the list.

If you aren’t going to score in bunches you better have guys that LOVE the other end of the court and again, if it’s Harkless, Goldwire and Gibson walking out as starters for year 1 under Moser, I’ll take that in a heartbeat.

But you aren’t wrong, you don’t have to agree with it at all :)

I tend to agree with this. A defensive minded PG who has played at the level Duke plays is a good thing to have IMO, especially with us needing players ASAP..... Time will tell on the whole recruiting discussion. Way to early for me to form an opinion on his recruiting prowess.

If Sampson brought in a guy who was a superior defender who did things that don’t always show up in the box score but helped his team win, WT would love the move.

By his reasoning, I guess Harkless didn’t move the needle either, since he isn’t a scorer or a pretty player.
