Possible transfers

FWIW, ESPN Insider ranks best available transfers... with De’Vion top 14 and the Duke PG not even on the list. That said, when you need 4-5 transfers to fill a roster, I’m all for brining in experience. Hopefully we can land 2-3 others near the top of the list as well.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b.../college-basketball-transfer-rankings-2021-22

And Cbssports with the one list they did a few days ago had Manek at 10 (before committing to UNC), Harmon at 13 and Goldwire at 16.

The Write-up on goldwire notes that he could potentially be a double digit scorer if he landed in the right situation.

Interesting. While it’s a bummer to lose 2 players considered top 20 transfers... I’m hopeful we can find some solid offsets.

And my argument/disagreement to that is you aren’t going to fill the 5/6 spots you have open due to guys leaving early/transfers due to the coaching change/etc with ELITE top guys at this point for year one.

But if you told me you can take a top defender from another Power 5 conference that started a lot of games the last two years and he doesn’t turn the ball over I’d say count me in every time.

He doesn’t move the needle cause why? Because he doesn’t score a lot? His list to play for isn’t that great to the naked eye? LOTS of guys and other teams wanted Bishop and the guy averaged 11 pts/6 rebs a game for Creighton. I would have argued that they were a solid team but nothing spectacular and yet some analysts are saying what a great get that is for Texas. It’s not always just about numbers (especially scoring) but what other intangibles a guy brings to the table. One of the lists I’ve seen in ranking guys remaining has Goldwire ahead of Harmon. Clearly Harmon shoots it better but Goldwire MUST do something well in order to be ahead of harmon and some other “big” names on the list.

If you aren’t going to score in bunches you better have guys that LOVE the other end of the court and again, if it’s Harkless, Goldwire and Gibson walking out as starters for year 1 under Moser, I’ll take that in a heartbeat.

But you aren’t wrong, you don’t have to agree with it at all :)

To be honest, I wasn’t sold on Goldwire myself until I saw what he can do on video. Yes, I know I’m watching a compilation of his best plays, but I saw enough to convince me this young man can score if that’s what he needs to do.

He’s a superb defender and distributor of the ball, which is exactly what we need the most in a point guard. If he can score, I see that as a bonus. I think he will be the perfect compliment to our freshmen point guards.

If Sampson brought in a guy who was a superior defender who did things that don’t always show up in the box score but helped his team win, WT would love the move.

By his reasoning, I guess Harkless didn’t move the needle either, since he isn’t a scorer or a pretty player.

It didn't for him, we already know this. He literally said he didn't like us recruiting "athletes" and wanted more skilled players.

Then said he came from a small school, thus he wasn't excited.

Interesting discussion, but do we have any idea on which transfers we might be able to get?

Groves brothers (Tanner and Jacob)

I feel better about them and feel like they will commit soon. It's been down to us and Portland from my understanding, but feel like OU is going to win out now. Earlier I didn't feel as good about OU's chances.

And Tanner has committed.

Awesome. Is his brother coming too? Why does it only mention one of them?

From my understanding, we have offered his brother and it is expected his brother will come. It's not as certain as Tanner was though.

Edit: Jacob has committed as well. See other thread for that.

Amazing get for OU, Groves can flat out play. Brother is very solid as well.

I watched Duke a handful of times & Goldwire always stuck out to me. Seemed like he never gave up an easy shot, if his man was even able to get a shot off at all.

Idk why anyone keeps talking Krutwig.

We're going after both Groves, we're going after the Duke PG, we're going after Thompson. There's several players in the portal we've reached out to.

So looking at numbers a bit, roster is as follows

Mason
Noland
Cortes
Gibson
Harkless
Issanza
Hill
O'Garro
T Groves
J Groves

That's 10, with 3 spots open. If Garang comes back, that leaves 2.

Transfers we are going after:

Bryce Thompson (PG/SG)
Jordan Goldwire (PG)
Ethan Chargois (PF)
Bryson Williams (PF)

Probably a few others, but haven't seen or heard anything confirmed.

We need to secure the players from UTEP, Duke and Kansas and some people will be singing a different tune (I'm sorry, so sorry.......).

True. Although some will just say that KU and Duke had their worst teams since before the civil war in order to downplay any good news. :)

Goldwire is expected to announce this week, and fairly soon.

It's down to Oregon State, Oklahoma, and Wichita State.

Would really like this addition! Think he would help in more ways than just on the scoreboard. He could be a really significant impact to the young guards.
