Possible transfers

Don't worry about that crap. You're entitled to your opinion. Can you provide a link to some highlights?

Just typed their names on YouTube. Most highlights are from their stellar performances against Kansas.

Alright, I’m going to get absolutely destroyed for this, but I’m going to say it anyway. I watched some Eastern Washington highlights. The Groves brothers are an upgrade on the duo of Reaves and Manek. Don’t @ me.

I'm not going to compare Reaves to Jacob, as they aren't similar players at all.

But Tanner is a pretty big upgrade over Manek, IMO.

Tanner might be the most skilled, with underrated athleticism, OU big since Blake. The only two that come close are Doolittle and Osby, but both of them were more slashers/mid-range jumper guys. Tanner is a guy we can post up, and let him go to work. I've complained about OU's ability (or lack thereof) to find guys like this for YEARS. Excited to finally have a guy that will need to be respected inside the paint.

Overall, tanner was decent at EWU, but most hype him up from the 1 game against KU.

He’s a good player, no doubt about that, and in Moser’s offense, I think it will play to his strengths, but I’m not going to overhype getting him. He fits the team’s style really well, so I hope he can play a Krutwig type role that stretches out to the 3 point line.

Jacob is good as well, but he was streaky for EWU. Hopefully he continues to improve.

You’re not the only one who has begged and pleaded for a post player who can hold his own inside. If I never see a guy with skinny legs and a butt that looks like two olives on toothpicks again, it will be too soon to suit me. Now, it’s our turn to trot out an enforcer down low!

like many mid-major transfers their stats dip some because of the increase level of competition and Tanner had his breakout season for Eastern Washington last year culminating against KU in the tournament, yes we need to be realistic especially early in the season and trust the process

I agree with this. Tanner is not going to be as good as he was against KU every night. He's going to be a very good post player that fits the system. Both he and Jacob are efficient players who play within themselves and within the coaches system.

Both have improved every year (quite a bit actually), but I don't expect either to come in and be first team All Big 12 players. I expect Jacob to come off the bench, even if we don't recruit another post player.

Offensively, they will make us very efficient, but they are not going to make the Big 12 all defensive team. We're a tournament team with the scoring and depth they bring. We can be better than that if we can get some athleticism in the frontcourt and a lead/veteran guard for depth.

going way out there with that one...way

Austin reaves slander is back... 1st team all big 12!

If you can’t see that.

Tanner can impact a season like Austin. Jacob can’t over a season.

Tanner was named mvp of the conference which had nothing to do with the Kansas game .
You don’t average 17 points a game and just have a “decent “ year .

I don’t see the point of disrespecting Reaves and manek. Can we celebrate the addition of 2 good players without insulting 2 former players? I complained about some of the deficiencies from Manek and Reaves but they’re Sooners and they gave us several good years. Reaves was 1st team all big12. Now, They have moved on to other things and we should too, while wishing them well and be done with it.

Tanner is a good player but don’t expect him to score 30 a night. Both are good players and will make us better but let’s keep things in perspective and have realistic expectations.

We need 3 more players. Ideally, BT, Williams from utep, and the Pg from Duke. That would make us a formidable team in Mosers first season.

Austin was a great player but I wouldn’t necessary say his style of equals wins .
OU did have the best win of the season without him on the court .

Decent comment was his entire career there.

KU game reference was the hype that most people contribute to him, because he absolutely went off.

Once again, as I stated, he’s a good player, and will thrive under Moser’s offense. I just don’t want people coming in here thinking he’ll make 1st team all big 12 right away and compete for POY. He’s going to enjoy Moser’s offense, it actually has a lot of the same principles as the offense he’s used to at EWU

If you walk the film, EWU ran horn sets, with groves setting screens. Sometimes he’d roll, sometimes he pop, sometimes he’d get the mismatch and bully them on the post. It reminds me of Moser using Krutwig to screen and roll at Loyola, although Groves has the pop ability to shoot 3s. Groves isn’t as lethal at the rim as Krutwig was either, but the comparison I’m using is for the style of offense, rather than players.

Like I said, he’s a good player. Just don’t want people to overhype and expect big 12 POY numbers from him when he gets here, or expect him to put up 20+ PPG.

Do you know how many big 12 players , much less big men ,have averaged 20+ point a game since its beginning ?Not many ....Blake averaged 22 if that gives you some what of reference .
Again , he’s better than “decent “ and he will be instantly one of the best big men in the conference next year .

You're a smarter basketball mind than me, but I think Jacob has some real potential. He's got a quick release, with a high release point, some game off of the dribble, adequate passer. He reminds me a little of Joe Ingles.
