I gathered from the recent Capel interview and from doing a little digging on my own that this staff has no interest in filling up all the available scholarships or taking guys in order to just have "bodies" for next season. Finding solid big men that fit the bill for a school like OU can be difficult, and to compound the problem, it is late in the game for 2010. This staff doesn't rotate bigs enough to need any more than a solid 4 man rotation. We have also seen that Coach Capel has no qualms with putting a tough wing down in the four spot (Cade Davis and maybe Cam Clark come to mind as guys that could fill that role next year).

If Tiny does stick in the draft, here is what we have back for next year:

Drew Fitzgerald
Barry Honore (heard from a good source that he is going to be with the team)
Kyle Hardrick
Tyler Neal (Just turned 17 and has a brother who is 6-8, so I am hoping he might be a legit 6-7 by the end of the summer).

Now, Fitzgerald is a guy that I think will make a nice leap next year and be a big contributor. Honore is a guy who has already shown that he can play D1 basketball. Hardrick has never impressed me much as a player. He is tentative and undersized/skinny to boot. However, I will at least credit him as being a guy that do some of the little things correctly (plus passer, gets good positioning, can hit the midrange...). Neal seems like he could at least give some kind of meaningful minutes at the 4 with a good summer of putting on muscle.

IMO, this staff now needs to land two post players with one of them being able to play the 5 (I think Drew can play the 5 next year but I fear that none of our other posts can). Washington and Thompson would be nice additions but I am not sure if either can play the 5 (I know Thompson can't).

Bottom line is that this is going to be a big summer for Drew Fitzgerald. We need him to really improve on his quickness and his rebounding. I hope he realizes the opportunity that he has in front of him and takes advantage because we need him to really turn it on for next season.

is Honore even on the team?
and I can't believe we are talking about Honore as a key part of this team

As I mentioned, he will be back next year and on the team. Why can't you believe that we are talking about him? If he were a JUCO at this point, then the board would being going gaga over his game. He has plenty of offensive game. He just needs to lose weight. Reminds me of Kyle Cannon (just hopefully with a better attitude). It will be a big summer for him as well.

If we landed Thompson then I would predict that Drew and Nick would start down low with Honore as the first guy off the bench. The big question to me revolves around Washington being able to give us some minutes at the 5. I have heard really good things about his rebounding and toughness, but I have always heard him touted as a power forward. If he can defend the 5 then we should sign him up imo.

lol this has gotten stupid...just stupid

I dont know what to think anymore....something needs to change, this is a disgrace to OU...how much further do things need to go before we make a change

I can just see it now...we have another terrible loosing record and guys will be saying "well we knew we were going to be bad because capel had no players coming back"

Then the year after that I see guys saying "well we had a bad year but we had to bring in 6 new freshman so lets give him another year or so to see how they mature"

His first year guys were saying "well this is sampsons mess so we need to give him a chance to bring in his own players" lol...this is just silly...

next thing you know we have had 3 straight loosing seasons...

This is really pathetic.

I agree. But it is the hand that we are dealt right now. Might as well try and celebrate the little things or next year will drive you crazy. It is all about the mindset. haha

Three straight and this staff is toast imo. Coach Capel will get next year to try and right the ship and then he will need to win again in 2011-12. Next year's class will be huge because there will be some key pieces that we will need to fill. Namely, a post that can dominate (like a Roc Christmas) and a PG for the future (Kyan Anderson would be my pick).

Capel will have to land the best recruiting class in the nation next year to have a shot at being good...I mean come on...I guess it all depends on who he picks up in the late signing period but still....

I just dont see how we keep him around...I mean the dude had THREE pro players on this roster, TWO tough hard nose guys in cade and crocker and we still sucked!!

It's reality at this point. Sure it sucks, but c'mon, if you are still surprised/not facing reality that we are having to start over by now and be a bad basketball team then I would advise you to not watch next year or waste your time reading OUHoops.com.

I am at least looking forward to watching a TEAM next year that competes and wants to be at the University of Oklahoma. My expectations for next year have been lowered, but I do expect this staff to have us back to the dance by 2011-12.

I can only think of one pro player (if by pro you mean NBA), and he was hurt most of the conference season and wasn't ready to take on the pressure of being THE GUY at a school like OU. Just because TMG and Tiny declared doesn't mean they are pro players. I highly doubt that either will get drafted (though I want them to).

If this happens I am extremely happy...I dont see how it can though unless capel can bring in some good late season signees...because havent we already discussed that we cant count on freshman to pull the team? Because it sounds like in 2011-12 we will have to unless capel brings in ross and jones this year

If we finish below .500 again next year and recruiting doesn't go well in the early period it might be time to go ahead and make a change.

Pro as in getting paid to play basketball...Tiny may not get drafted but I def see him in the league someday.
