Pritchard decommits

Is that true? Does he really have offers from anybody that is a true blue blood program? I haven't looked recently, and I know he had offers from schools like Oregon and maybe Illinois, but it isn't like he has received offers from Duke, UK, and Arizona, right?

He had offers from some pretty good programs before he committed to OU. Among others, Wisconsin, Oregon, Illinois, Indiana, Nova, Washington, the Zags and ASU had already extended an offer. He also had planned to visit Mich. State and Ohio State, so I think it's safe to assume those two schools had extended an offer, or they were at least interested enough to invite him to visit.

I didn't say he had an offer from an elite program. My assumption is that one or more schools on his radar has continued to "pursue" him, despite the fact that he has been an OU commit since last year. That's what I would do if I was an assistant worth my salt.

One thing is certain, something happened in the last few weeks to get his attention. Was it a Duke, UK or a Zona? I don't have a clue. But, that wouldn't surprise me any. He a top 40 point guard who can shoot it from deep (see his nine threes performance in a recent all-star game). Guess we'll know soon enough which school(s) got him to look in another direction. Distance may be a factor, so a school like Oregon or UW could be attractive to him now.

If he ends up staying in Oregon, I won't be surprised if perhaps there is a girl in the picture, as some have guessed (there's a lovely young woman on his Twitter profile).

The advice I've always given to kids looking at college is to never pick your school for a girl or a boy. It's a rare teenage relationship that is as important as you believe at the time.

The problem with that advice, although spot on, is that it will never be listened to. Telling a 16 or 17 year old they should break up with their girlfriend/boyfriend to go away to college just doesn't work. Instead, they'll just break up freshman year like all high school couples do.

Got a DM on Twitter last night and Oregon was this insiders thoughts.

It is what it is, kids are fickle and have their own lives. Just keep moving forward, Kruger will get it done one way or another. Have faith.

I think I have a perfect record of being right that the relationship won't last and a perfect record of being ignored.

Irony:

If Payton Pritchard switches his commitment from Oklahoma to Oregon, he basically is switching from one OU to another. Also, both head coaches were head coaches at Kansas State for 4 years. Lon Kruger coached for 4 years and never had a losing season. His lowest conference finish was 4th place. Dana Altman succeeded Kruger as the K-State coach and never had a winning Big 8 season. His best finish was 5th place. He left K-State to coach at Creighton which seemed to be a step down in the basketball pecking order, but it was in his home state of Nebraska. Ironically, Altman might win out in the Payton Pritchard sweepstakes.

I'm glad this is happening now so we still have a chance to get in on some good PG's. I would even be OK with a top juco PG. Of course, I would rather have Pritchard, but you can't get everything you want.

My thoughts exactly! Better now than when it's too late to bring in a quality PG who can run our offense after Jordan graduates.

I've still got my fingers crossed that Pritchard will sign with OU in the end. But to be honest, this bit of news does not make me too optimistic that we will ever see him in the C&C. Time to move on and sign someone who wants to be here!

Is it an NCAA violation for us to pay this young women's tuition? (I am just kidding)

This is terrible. The coaching staff absolutely loves him.

certainly not good news but as with all things we must let it play out

My wife and I began dating at age 18 (she was 17).... Still together. We were from Oklahoma and she moved to Colorado for me, because thats where I wanted to go to college and live.

He should go to Oklahoma and see if she follows. Take some advice from Sunny:

If it's indeed just Oregon that is chief competition I think OU can overcome that. Now if some big dogs are involved maybe not.

So lame. You were such octogenerians. Wife and I (still married although, sometimes, the volume is loud) went together starting when I was 16 (she was a touch older, just sayin). Married when wife was 21 and I was 19. Three kids within two years (twins the second time). So get in line DUDE!

All the attractive girls I knew from HS were fat and ugly within a few years. Somebody please relay this information to him.

On verbal commits site there has always been a long list of PGs who apparently think they have offers. So guessing that LK and company have always been hedging their bets to some extent, or love the idea of two true PGs. Hope that one of those others come through, or (best case) Pritchard re commits.
