Sam Grooms sounds more and more like Quannas White with everything I read about him. Strong, quick, great defender, leader, pass first, etc.

Remember people, Quannas White came in and averaged 7.6 points, 4.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game and made the Big 12 All Newcomer Team and was on the All West Regional Team in the NCAA Tournament. Those stats dont blow your mind, but he came in and had a massive impact on the team. Quannas could flat-out shut people down, and that is the reputation Grooms has as well. They are even the exact same size at 6'1'' 190.

I think we will see a very similar type of impact out of Sam Grooms.

Quannas was tough, that was his greatest attribute.

Hope Grooms is too cause the team could use it.

Isn't it a little early to be throwing out the Quannas comparisons? Like a few other posters have already said Quannas' numbers in JC were a bit better than those of Grooms. And besides that there just isn't TOO much info that's been thrown out to justify these real lofty expectations. I'm happy we got a point guard that seems to have some toughness and good vision but to compare it to maybe the best player OU has had at the position in the past ten years seems a bit much.

I'd like him to at least suit up for an exhibition first... Haha

geez...it's nice to be positive and all...but at this rate in a couple of weeks he'll be the next Stockton.

what this guy does at the jc level and what he does for us are two different animals. youre talking about a guy that was our hearty/soul/engine on a tough defense and the floor leader and pace setter on offense. imo if he doesnt hurt his ankle against iu in the semis we win the nc. we had to change our whole game after that. give this kid a chance to maybe just be sam grooms.

I, too, hope that Grooms is as good as White. But let's be honest. The reason people are comparing Grooms to White is that Grooms looks like he will not put up big stats, we hope he is good anyway, and White was good without putting up big stats. So the comparison is convenient and based on hope.

It really isn't any more complicated than that. There is no other reason to compare the two, given that none of us know anything about Grooms.

Grooms = Grooms..................Let the kid play first before we crown him the the next World B. Free...............

I really don't know why people like setting themselves up for failure by posting stuff like this.

Quannas White could have put up much better stats at OU. He didn't because he was surrounded by some of the best college players in the country at the time (namely, Hollis and Ace). White holds the second best 3 point shooting percentage for a season at OU (over 100 attempts). The guy was a stud, that put stats aside to let Hollis, Ere, and Ace get theirs.

Grooms won't be anything like White.

Quannas chest bumping Luke Walton out of bounds in the NCAA was a classic moment. the look on Walton's face was hilarious. "wtf just happened?" once the game got physical, U of A wilted.

excited for Grooms but our luck with juco guards hasn't been so great of late. wait and see.

Where did Grooms grow up? I don't think it is possible to grow up where Quanas grew up and not be tough. It takes a very willed young man to make it out of that neighborhood. Many of done it but most don't make it.

This.

Some of you are getting WAY ahead of yourselves.

Grooms = Mookie Blaylock.

i havent seen anyone like mookie walk through our door since mookie. WT was right. posting these comparisons is ridiculous, starting with that one. ^^^

I remember that game almost like it was played yesterday. I had thought it might be the game that would end the Sooners' run, since Arizona was highly ranked and (on paper) seemed to out-talent us.

But, like you pointed out, the mildcats wilted against our physical style of play, and it soon became obvious that we had an excellent chance to make it all the way to the national championship game. I still have trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that we lost to that Mike Davis-coached Indiana team in the national semifinals.
