Odomes showed OU fans why he was thought to be the odd-on favorite to get quality minutes his freshman season in tonight's game. He made the best of his 18 minutes (most of any bench player) by scoring 15 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the field (1 of 1 from three) and 2 of 3 from the free throw line. He also had 2 rebounds and a steal. The only negative was his 4 turnovers.

I love this group of freshmen! It's going to be fun watching them grow into their game the next four years.

I even was OK with Odomes' turnovers. He made a couple of them trying to pass when the teammate wasn't expecting it (e.g. the lob attempt to Austin Mankin late in the game). It shows me he isn't selfish with the ball. After watching him this summer I thought then he had the best dribble penetration and body control of anyone on the team..... plus the size and strength to pull it off.

I love Odomes and James as backup wings.

I know you really like McNeace and he showed me a lot tonight. He may have the biggest long-term potential of any of our post players. He oozes athletic ability and quickness. He just needs to get a little stronger and realize how good he can be.

I was also impressed with how well Manyang moves for a 7 footer. I can't wait until he gets into better shape.

I liked some of the things Buford did, too. He plays some good defense and made a couple of sweet passes (e.g. he got the rebound and made the feed to McNeace for his dunk.... the pass was the key to that play). I'm waiting for him to bust out on offense.

I like all of our newcomers, and am not disappointed in any of them.

How about this freshman class? James is going to be a shooter, I will practically guaranty that. Buford is going to rebound and stretch a defense. I think Odomes is going to do a lot. McNeace looks way more athletic than everyone else his size.

Do you aw t to p,ay Hesse guys in four years?

The newcomers are key to how good we are going to be this year. If we can have 5 quality players coming off the bench we will be very difficult to beat.

The next real measure is how many minutes and points, rebounds, etc the bench gets against Wisconsin.

I think Manyang can be a real impact player. When he is in position he is going to get the board and I think he may have some offensive potential.

I liked the way McNease played.

When was the last time we had this much post depth?

Just like some of you said, I like this young group but I really like the up side to our big guy, don't ask me to spell his name but Big M:OU-logo:

When was the last time we had this much post depth?
Well last year right now. Just based of Thomas alone. But Bennett provided some good minutes here and there too. McNeace and Buford are raw. Spangler is by far our best post. Now in a couple years when Buford and McNeace develop, Lattin too. Lattin's offensive game still hasn't looked any better than last year at this time. But it's early for these guys. When Freeman gets here and these guys get experience under their belt we are talking about a pretty deep group of posts. We only get 2 years with Manyang. In a limited role he got 7 rebounds which is a big plus. But he still looked real limited in every other part of his game.

Odomes and James look real advanced for freshmen. In many years they would already be starting at OU. But being behind a sure AA and a couple all conference type guards like Woodard and Cousins will be big for them. We won't be taking near as much of a step down losing Heild and Cousins after this year as I thought.

Physically...Odomes and James are two of the most ready wings OU has had in a while, they look the part. Once again, it's McNeese State, but there are a couple tendencies Odomes has thay may keep him off the court compared to James.

While Odomes is scoring more points, James plays within his skill set, which is a huge plus as a freshman on a team with a bunch of seniors trying to make a tournament run. Of course we would all love a dominant, impact freshman off the bench, but that's not going to happen. It's very telling that Odomes was on the court toward the end of the game and James wasn't, coaches think he needs more time (IMO). H

Odomes, for a lack of a better description, is a high school scorer (right now). That's not a knock on him, he's a guy who in insanely athletic at that level w/ size and could get buckets. His shot was dangerous enough to respect (but not elite) and he can bull or out jump other HS kids in the paint. He is going to have learning curve to translate that to the Big XII level. James is stronger with ball, Odomes has a bad habit of turning his back on the play when he catches the ball on the wing, he's not comfortable ripping through to clear space which is a necessity at that level...you can't run an offense like that.

I didn't get to watch the memphis game, so was surprised Odomes didn't see more time. After watching last night, I can definitely see why. Rashard has a lot of skills that get you excited for the future, but he has some holes that a senior laded team won't wait to develop. There will be games when he comes in and gets buckets and others he may be buried on the bench.

I love the Buford/Jamuni combination. They just look comfortable with each other. James is controlled and plays within himself and the game. Odomes is rougher. Both only need experience. Love their aggression and maturity for freshmen. Lattin hasnt seemed to progress. He still looks like basketball is somewhat new to him.

Wow this group does get me smiling. This entire team has discovered the benefits of putting the ball on the floor and penetrating.
.. Rashard may not be here 4yrs..
