Recruits attending Texas Tech's camp

Norm, when is OU's camp? Should be a great chance for Sherri to see and cultivate a relationship with some bigtime recruits.

For some unknown terrible reason, they decided not to have camps anymore.

Have we ever gotten a straight answer on this question of why the camps ended?

Soonersports.com lists 2014 summer camps for baseball mens bkb, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling. Why no womens bkb? I can not see Coale not wanting to get these potential recruits on campus. This does not make sense.

Stacy Hansmeyer has a camp in Moore, June 17-20, 2014.

Let's see. Stacy is OU-connected. Moore is nearby. There is no liability on the part of OU if Stacy uses it to recruit. Wonder if there is an advantage?

Is Stacys camp the reason OU does not have one on campus anymore?

We don't know. Do we?

We also don't know why Jenna Plumley transferred. In fact, the only thing we have ever known is that we don't know.

But, I do think it is curious that Stacy, a long-time assistant at OU and one of Sherri's HS players, opens a camp just as Sherri closes one. Her camp would have had difficulty competing against an OU camp.

I don't think so. I have not heard of any top rated players from out of state attending her camps. In fact, I haven't heard of any of the top Oklahoma players attending her camps. If Stacy still has a friendly relationship with Sherri I would be a bit surprised. Even if Stacy did have a top rated player attending her camp, I doubt that would benefit OU unless Sherri and her staff go up and volunteer as part of Stacy's staff. I am fairly certain that isn't happening.

I think all this is is one more opportunity for Norm to say that Sherri isn't doing her job.

We aren't hiring Kim Mulkey.

so Sherri canceled her camp to help Stacy Hansmeyer's camp? That is a bit odd if you ask me.
Sherri should volunteer to be an asst at Stacy's camp and that should make her camp super!

That's more than likely a NCAA violation considering the camp is not on the OU campus and SHansmeyer's camp is not an NCAA sanctioned event during the July evaluation period. It's June 17th-20th...

If you were going to attend a camp, Would you rather go to one at a high school gym put on by someone not coaching or at a major university fieldhouse with major college coaches?

I would like to address some of the recent comments on this thread.

1. The reasons laid out for Sherri dropping the camp -- insurance costs -- are simply B.S. In light of all the other sports holding camps, it simply doesn't hold water. On it's face, it's a lie. Plain and simple.

What would hold water, if this excuse is to be believed is that something happened at one of Sherri's camps that bordered on unlawful and that as some part of an agreement between OU, the injured and the university's insurance company, the university dropped the camp for a period of time or permanently.

That is the only possible excuse other than Sherri didn't want to do them anymore.

2. I don't know for certain whether Sherri and her staff are or aren't using Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook or whatever else is out there that keeps prospects glued to their Iphones/Androids.

But if they aren't then Norm would be DAMN right, Sherri isn't doing her job. That is a significant part of recruiting and for coaches and their assistants to not use them puts OU at a serious disadvanatage in recruiting.

Our recruiting the last couple of years has, I think, improved on guards. It's crap on bigs and forwards. That also is a fact. There are signs that with Treece and ViVi it might be taking a step up. We will know in a few months. It certainly can't be much worse than it's been.

Someone wants to say I'm anti-Sherri or OU for saying that -- tough. It's the facts that almost every unbiased reviewer/fan/pundit/journalists/basketball expert would agree with.

Sherri can and does recruit good guards, she might get a top 50 or top 25 everyo now and again. But our guards are good and show promise no matter what their rankings are, etc., etc.

The only things that are in question about Sherri is her recruiting process and failure to recruit game-changing centers since Abi, her dribble, dribble around the key style of offense and some of her substitution/rotation patterns.

She's a borderline great coach. She is, I think, sick of recruiting and doesn't want to do it any more. She has too narrow of a "type" of girl she is willing to sign, and I, actually, think she might rather be in the classroom teaching something else.

All coaches get worn out, tired, etc. I think she's going through that after nearly 20 years. I expect her to pick it up this coming years because one more year like last year and her job's going to be on the line, no matter what she's done in the past.

I look for her to retire in two seasons.

I have had the same exact thoughts about the camp issue, the type of player she wants, and about the recruiting issue and being burnt out.

I'm concerned that you about to suffer the wrath of the unwaveringly faithful and the true believers.
