Robert Allen thinks Marcus Smart is coming back

Thats more wishful thinking on his part

I think Allen is still waiting for Adrian Peterson to visit OSU, eight years too late, for his football recruiting trip. As I recall, A.D. told him flat-out that he wasn't interested in OSU back in '04, and Allen still told his audience of 5-6 that Peterson was still a potential signee for them. :facepalm

Robert says a lot of things. As much as I'd love to have Smart and Nash back, I think they are both gone.

Excuses for what? OSU has had a great season.

Since nobody has his exact quote, I'm going to just assume he was exercising a bit of hyperbole.

I don't know how anyone could look at the full rosters of both teams and think that KU is less talented than OSU. And, more importantly, they have a significant edge in experience.

Having elite talent with significant experience is a tough combo to beat.

Will all you poors stop posting on our site?

As an OU fan, I hope they leave. As a college basketball fan, I hope they stay. I think Nash should return, I don't believe Smart can improve his stock by staying (unless he really likes college and doesn't need the money).

Pretty honest answer. Markel Brown has a chance to be the go to man on the roster next year. He has the most to gain by staying. I just don't honestly think Nash is ready yet.

Smart is a stud and will be a very high pick. If he stays it is time to look at Boone's payroll for Marcus' mom's name.
Nash is immature and isn't ready for the NBA but if I was an osu fan I would want him to go based on his body language. Brown is the exact opposite IMO. I hope he decides to leave because that will hurt them a bunch.
Willie Warren was never a lottery pick and was basically a smaller version of Nash.

KU has talent but not as much as in the recent past. Young is fair, Relaford and Johnson are nice players but nothing special and they have no bench. Ellis has developed yet.

OSU is as talented as any team in the Big 12. I don't care what the ratings out of high school said two, three and four years ago.

We all know what the top three bring, but their role players are solid too.

Forte is a top 10 shooter in the entire country. Michael Cobbins is the equal of a Perry Ellis, Kevin Young or Jamari Traylor for KU.

Jurick is a solid defender as is Brian Williams.

To me, OSU's biggest weakness is a guy who can spell Smart. Gardner is terrible.

All in all, I'd say Ford has done an OK job with this team. Anything below a third place finish and it would've been a below average job.

As others have said, as an OU fan, I hope Smart goes. No idea if he will, but I'd guess there's a very good chance he does.
I also think Nash has a good chance to go, but I don't particularly care if he does. Doesn't scare me much. Always took him as a mental midget.
There's an outside chance Brown could go, and I think he's pretty good, so I hope he takes that outside chance.

Sheesh, the hyperbole is strong here.

Forte is a top 10 shooter in the entire country? Maybe if you're talking about free throws.

He was a very solid 3-point shooter through about the first 2/3 of the season, and then he hit the freshman wall. Look at his last 10 game and home/road splits. He's been shooting about 20% from 3-point range in the month of February. His 3-pt FG% for the full season has dwindled to 33%.

Markel Brown is shooting 38%. If Forte is top 10 in the country, what's Brown? The single best shooter in the country?

And speaking of Cobbins and Williams, let's not forget that they were both injured early in the year, as was Olukemi.

People tend to forget about that when evaluating Ford's performance this year. He basically lost 3 starters right at the start of the season.

We got Cobbins back in mid-December, but Olukemi was lost for the year and Williams just came back a few weeks ago.

SOOOO funny this conversation. Everyone says he is going to be top 5 (I can't figure out why as it is a risky pick IMO) and if that is true HE IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He wants to buy his momma a home and take care of family. It is STUPID if you are a lottery pick to not go. Don't care how much you like school, you are a bad year or and injury away from losing it all. He is LONG GONE POKIES. Next question!!!!!!!!!!

Forte's problem is that he takes bad shots. There contested, there forced, there way beyond the arc. He's proven that he can make them and he's also proven that he's going to miss way more than he makes.

Blake Griffin says hello

Also says if he does, OSU is the preseason favorite to win the national title.

Kentucky is the preseason favorite to win the title.

Whether Marcus Smart returns or not.

Blake Griffin says hello

That was a little different situation. First Blake was not as highly regarded as Smart. Second Blake is a PF/C and the year of development had more upside. Third Blake's older brother was on the team it was their last chance to play together (most likely). Finally, I think Blake's family is in a better place financially than Marcus Smart's mom (I am speculating a bit but she made a lot of sacrafices for Marcus and Blake's parents had each other to make things easier).

I think Marcus Smart would be nuts not to leave if he is projected in the top 5.

Kentucky might be the favorite but don't discount Michigan, depending on what their three young guys do. Robinson is projected the highest and Hardaway is low 1st round so he may stay. Burke is in between. They also have something like 3 high recruits for next year.

As far as Smart goes, NBAdraft.net has him #2 behind McElmore. No way he stays.

If he is projected the number 2 pick by legitimate sources (I have no clue if NBAdraft.net is legit), he should go.

Draftexpress.com and NBAdraft.net are the two most frequented NBA draft websites. They update fairly often, each sometimes hits and misses on where prospects are going to go. But they both have solid draft coverage as the season is going on.

As of Feb. 28th Draftexpress (in their full two rounds draft) has:
1st round:
#2 Ben McLemore
#6 Marcus Smart
#10 Isaiah Austin
#25 LeBryan Nash
#27 Jeff Withey
2nd round:
#9 Myck Kabongo

They updated their Top 25 picks on March 12th:
#2 Ben McLemore
#5 Marcus Smart
#12 Isaiah Austin

Nbadraft.net has (updated March 5th):
#1 Ben McLemore
#2 Marcus Smart
#18 Myck Kabongo
#19 Markel Brown
#26 Isaiah Austin
#28 Jeff Withey
2nd Round:
#8 Cory Jefferson
#55 Amath M'Baye
