Rotnei Clarke expected to visit OU next week

His me-first attitude (from reports, I have no firsthand info), disinterest in playing defense, threats to leave Arkansas year after year (honestly, who transfers with one year of eligibility left, when a respected coach like Anderson is coming in?).

I'm tired one-and-done players of any kind and I sure don't want selfish guys with questionable attitudes. If Coach Kruger wants him, I'll zip my lip (well, I'll try), but my alarm bells are going off. I don't feel good about this.

I feel the same way about this situation.

With our situation as it is I don't think we can turn him down, but if anyone thinks that there is nothing to be concerned about with this kid and his family they must be crazy or high.

I think most people have a lot of respect for Mike Anderson, and it makes you wonder if he knew he was going to have to work hard under the new management. That won't change here, I'd assume. In his own defense, for whatever reason he may not have enjoyed Fayetteville.

Only thing I know is that if he comes here, I don't want to read jack crap in the paper from his dad or uncle about how he feels. He's a grown ass man, and they need to let him act like one.

Well the thing about it is he would only have one year of eligibility remaining, thus the lackeys he has surrounding him would have nothing to "threaten" with, i.e. another transfer. Kruger could say this is how it's going to be and if you don't like it, well enjoy selling insurance because your collegiate basketball career is over.

Exactly. He's obviously not going to be in the limelight the year he sits out, and then Coach Kruger will have all the chips the one year he can play. He can either do things the right way, or Kruges can send him packing. Kruger has been aroudn the block, and even coached in the NBA. He's not going to have a hard time dealing with some kid.

I agree wholeheartedly. I also think that if it got bad he'd find himself pretty lonely on his end of the bench, because I think we have a majority of team/role players and the same coming in. What sucks is if we do find ourselves in a worst case scenario there's a wasted scholly on a team full of upperclassmen. I really think if he does come it will turn out fine, but as someone else mentioned we all have reason to be gunshy after the last couple of years.

I also agree with sperry on the fact that Coach can handle it. Talented high school scorers with helicopter parents are probably something that he has dealt with more than once in his day.

If Capel was still the coach, I would say no.

With Kruger, I say yes.

Capel's brief track record of dealing with ego's is horrifyingly, brilliantly abysmal.

What about it Kelvin was the coach or dave or bob stoops, or howard...

Capel is gone, Lon is the coach you dont have to compare it... Stop beating a dead horse.

Relax, Felton Sr. I supported Capel to the end, but that's just fact.

:ed

i supported as well... but doesnt it get old comparing %!(*$ all the time???

Capel was compared to Sampson (pro and con) the whole team he was here, and a certain percentage of our fanbase never forgave Sampson for not being Billy Tubbs -- and gave voice to their displeasure during his entire tenure -- so comparing Sooner coaches is certainly nothing new. Has it only now started bothering you?

No, if it were old people wouldn't do it.

Let people post what they want. If others respond, well, then the original author (if I may) made a good post.

Program has been disappointing, but even sadder when we have to get excited about taking Arky rejects.

I don't know if Clarke will get an offer from Kruger or not. All I know is that the kid can do what he does better than anyone on the current roster. And just because some Arkansas writer does a hatchet job on him and the message board posters pile on is no evidence one way or the other on whether he would be a good get for the Sooners. Do alittle homework. Osby got simular treatment from the Miss. St. people when he left. It may be a long 6 yrs. for people that have some sort of bias against transfers, (other teams rejects) since Kruger has a history of using them extensivly. I think that there were 6 on his last UNLV team.

Rejects? lol

You do realize the kid's last two seasons would both be top five 3 point shooting seasons all time for OU players (percentage-wise, for players taking 100 threes)? Will he ever be more than a "shooter"? Probably not. But there is no reason he can't play adequate defense. If Kruger wants him, I want him. Until Kruger has a proven record at OU of bad decisions, I'm going to be inclined to trust what he does.

You presume a great deal of ignorance on the part of other posters. The concerns about Clarke are hardly based on just one story. Reports of his family being overly involved, for example, are widespread and go back to his high school days.

The mere fact that he's up and leaving Arkansas before his senior season is sufficient for me to wonder about him.

And I don't think anyone's expressed concerned about transfers overall -- it's taking this particular transfer they question.

Please. I didn't presume anything. I responded to a post that LINKED to a hatchet job by an Arkansas writer and a pile on by Arkansas mesasage board posters. I know his uncle is a small school hs coach that has acted like an idiot trying to grasp at relavence in the world of big time college basketball. Clarke has repeatedly said that his uncle does not speak for him and has acted without his knowledge. I don't think that is all that rare to see message boards gin up all the negatives when some kid transfer out. Do you?

If he was such a problem why is Butler trying to get him? I doubt Brad Stevens or Coach Kruger would take a chance on a player with only one year to play if he is going to create problems within a team.

Leave it to the band geeks to drum up "attitude concerns" over a proven player.

Give me all the alpha dog me first players we can get. Then it's the coaches job to put them in position to win games. That's how you win.
