I read on another website covering Arizona State about recruiting juco power forward Savon Goodman. It intrigued me because he is evidentally visiting the Sooners this weekend, ASU next week and will then pick between the two. He played at UNLV his freshman year and transferred to Indian Hills Community College after getting in some legal trouble (are we recruiting everyone on the Indian Hills roster?).

Goodman is a former Rivals150 recruit and is listed as a 6-foot-6, 215 pound combo forward. He developed a reputation as a bruising rebounder and defender in high school and AAU basketball and also for rim-rattling dunks. Gooman has 3 years of remaining eligibility and projects as a power forward. The No. 72 overall recruit in the 2012 class, Goodman signed with UNLV after being earlier committed to Villanova and averaged 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in about nine minutes of action as a true freshman in 2012-2013.

What do you guys know about Savon Goodman? Because he sat out this season at Indian Hills, he could play next season.

I don't know anything about him, but based off your post he sounds intriguing.

Somebody on the board brought this prospect to my attention about 3 weeks ago.

His potential appears to be thru the roof. Have to think LK and crew are convinced he won't be an "issue". Kind of a replacement for missing out on Cunningham.

He'd have 3 seasons of eligibility remaining, with no redshirt available, correct?

I know there has been talk of Spangler getting minutes at the 4 at some point. I'd find that VERY hard to believe if this guy ends up at OU, and really is projected as a 4.

Kid has some hops, and seems to play stronger than his size might indicate.

Goodman has been the primary target for the spring signing period for weeks. Kruger is high on him. If Kruger is high on him, I'm high on him. He could be the missing piece.

Like the fact that he would be a sophomore spreading out the ships some more, not adding another player to large junior class.

Sounds like a combo SF/PF. OU could play him with Buford and Lattin/McNeace at PF/C.

Could be another Osby situation.

+1

Asu is also hosting Atwood from Connors state this weekend.

Does anyone know if he's a possibility if we miss on Goodman?

Also, how the heck has osu not offered Atwood? They need someone like him a lot more than we do.

This guy seems like the kind of guy that could give Spangler some help.

This highlight video dubbed him as "Larry Johnson Jr"

A lot of folks like to make Selvy comparisons to incoming players. This kid might remind me more of Selvy than any OU player since Selvy.

Agree with gary, a kid like this, with the athleticism and toughness, could be "a/the missing piece".

He doesn't seem to have Selvy's length to me. Seems thicker, stronger, more like a Juan Patillo clone to me.

I'm inclined to trust Coach Kruger's judgement, but I don't like the sound of "two felony burglary and grand larceny charges." I know he got to plead down, but that's what the charges originally were.

One of my favorite things about LK is that he's brought in good citizens, guys who represent my alma mater well. I have to wonder about this move, if it happens.

If Lon actually signs him, I'd expect him to be on a leash that is shorter than short.

I think that you answered your own question. I'm pretty sure than Lon thinks that Goodman is currently a good citizen and will represent you alma mater well.

He has certainly passed on plenty of kids so far that he didn't feel that way about. Little Stevie and Henry just to name a couple. Kruger probably hasn't lowered his standards at this late date.

Bottom line is, if you want to be more than just a first weekend and out kind of team in March, you'll to take some guys with jaded pasts. Period.

Doesn't mean we have to have a locker room full of them, but to take one that has the potential to be a difference maker every other class or so is OK.

If they don't conform, show them the door.

To me, signing guys like this only becomes a problem when you depend on them. Adding a guy like Goodman, that would likely be a solid contributor, but not someone we can't live without, won't hurt the program.
