SEC was afraid of WVU

lol @ a mizzou clown talking down OU football.

Missouri is a perfect fit for the SEC inbreds. Missouri gets no respect because they haven't earned any. Ever. In any sport.

Speaking of which, have you ever been to southern missouri? It goes perfect with much of the SEC, particularly northeast florida and all of Louisiana.

And Oklahoma... Let's be honest about your state.

Boca, no one is talking down OU football. I'm talking down BCS wins.

West Virginia is a better program than either Mizzou or aTm (Mizzou is a no-brainer here), and they have been since the early 80s. They have played for a NC, came close a couple of other times, and now have 3 BCS wins. Not even a contest here.

TCU is solid but will decline in my opinion as they get further into the Big 12. I think we'll see with them about what we've seen with the other 2 the last couple of years.

Mizzou reached its pinnacle in 2007 and has jack to show for it. Congrats.

On another note, why is this asswipe (Sawyer) still allowed to post here? Does this woman bring anything to this board other than trying to piss people off? It's a serious question.

Sawyer, enjoy the SEC. I dont know how you'll do there, but I suspect you'll be as meaningless in that conference as you have been in this one, but hey, youre happy with where Mizzou is and thats all that matters. We all need to know our role, and its clear that you know yours, even if you wont admit it.

Over the past five years...

Mizzou: 48-19, 10 wins against top 25 teams, peak finish of #4 in AP poll
WVU: 48-17, 9 wins against top 25 teams, peak finish of #5 (also their peak all-time finish)

WVU was much better than Mizzou during the 80s and early 90s (when today's recruits weren't yet born). The primary difference between the programs today, though, is a lack of an OU/UT type program in their conference.

You guys are wrong on TCU. They were already recruiting better than Okie St, Missouri, etc before joining the Big XII. That will only improve.

They have the 25th ranked class this year so far.

West Virginia is head and shoulders above Missouri in all regards and always has been. They have been a consistent power over decades. They will only get stronger in the Big XII.

BTW the Big East is dramatically superior to the old Big XII North. West Virginia would have run through the North most years.

Or it will get worse. Right now TCU sells winning, conference championships, and potential BCS bowls to its recruits. They won't be buying that story when TCU is constantly finishing behind OU, Texas, OSU, etc.

I really don't know what to expect from West Virginia. I think they are going to become the conference spoiler. A team that is tough to beat on the road but rarely, if ever wins the conference. I think they will become A&M.

10 > 9

The Big East was about the same as the North, except WVU never had to deal with the South.

Historically there is very little separating Mizzou and West Virginia. They were good in the 80s, early 90s, and early 2000s, which were Mizzou's historical low points. Before that and since, the two programs are the same. The difference is Don Nehlen vs. Woody Widenhofer and Bob Stull. That's pretty much it.

I'm not from Oklahoma, for one, but there is no comparison. Southern Missouri is the most backcountry place I've ever seen. Those people are stuck in 1870. Branson is a prime example.

Disclaimer: I rather enjoyed Columbia the few times I've been there.

Very little that separates WVU and Missouri. Thats hilarious. They have won 3 BCS Bowls while Missouri has never even been to one. That is an ocean apart.

You have the same number of BCS Bowl wins as Rice while WVU has the same as OU, Texas, LSU, etc.

oklahoma has certainly been among the best football programs in the history of college football.

fify

And it's laughable to knock a program's record in BCS bowls when your own school can't even earn a berth in a BCS bowl.

If my team just lost by 38 I'd probably revert to this stuff again, too.

West Virginia was definitely impressive in their 26 point loss to Syracuse this year.

They fielded a young team this season, of course they are going to struggle with consistency.

Some perspective: This team also put up over 500 yards against LSU's defense, which just completed one of the most impressive regular season showings for a defensive unit in college football in quite some time (not to mention, was one of only a couple teams that actually gave LSU a competitive game, only down 21-27 towards the end of the 3rd quarter).

Bottom line, WVU's unquestionably a more formidable opponent going into next year than both Missouri and A&M.

Overall record in the Big 12 era:

Oklahoma: 141-53
Texas: 153-51
Nebraska: 139-55

Each team has played for at least one national title in that span. Texas and Oklahoma both won one. Texas is the only team to play in two.

Sorry to offend by suggesting someone else might have an argument as the best footbsll program over the course of the Big 12's existance. Seems like some of you forgot about the Blake years. Those records still count.

To clarify, though: there is a difference between has been and is. Oklahoma right now is definitely the best overall program. UT's inability to find a quarterback has really hurt them post-McCoy. If they had a competent passer (or runner, a la Vince Young), they'd still be right up there with the best in the country.

OU has played in 4 son.

We'll see. They certainly aren't a bad program. I think they and Mizzou are more or less even. They were a bit better this year, but last year I'd give the edge to Mizzou. And we also had a pretty young team. Franklin and Josey are arguably the best sophomore QB/RB tandem in the country.

I think the step up in competition WVU will face is greater than Mizzou going from the Big 12 to SEC. We'll see how they handle it.

My bad on that. Also forgot that Nebraska has won a national title in the Big 12 era.

Point doesn't really change.

Over the course of the Big 12's history, very little separates OU, UT and NU.
