Serious ? so we can all evaluate the future

Fire him or keep him I dont care about in this thread. I just want some facts. Anyone know how much EXACTLY we are paying Capel and how many years are left on the contract and if there is a buy out clause.
I know he signed an extension right after the Elite 8 and I know it was over a million a year.
My reasoning here is I think we all need to see what the contract is all about before we start thinking Joe C is gonna fire him. If there are a ton of years left, I bet Joe C. gives him one more year then drops the axe if we dont make the NCAA Tourney. I think its solely a money issue right now. This is null and void if we dont win a game in the big 12 b/c I think he forces Joe's hand then.
Anyway, anyone got the actual numbers? Thanks guys!...

Unless my math is wrong -- I didn't double check it -- he was paid $1,515,275.36 over the past 12 months by the state of Oklahoma.

I don't know how long his contract is. He signed a 7 year extension in April of '09 but I don't know if that was 7 years added to his contract or seven years from that point in time.
 
He has to go.. He does not develop players at all.. Players get better in spite of him.. It's inexcusable to see players not doing basic basketball skills such as blocking out.. I feel sorry for Newell and Clark for being duped into coming here.. I love OU basketball more than football but I would not go to ou with capel as a coach

he received a 7 year extension on his contract that was supposed to expire in 2014 so i guess that's 2021. and he gets 1.5 mil a year. I have no idea if there is a buyout

Serious question if this is true, WHY? Is OU really such a bad job that we were that scared of him leaving after the Elite 8 season that we extended his contract over a decade into the future? That just doesn't make sense no matter whom your coach is...

I cant imagine that its that long. 2014 sounds better. So, I guess im bumping this thread see if anyone else can wiegh in on specifics of the contract.

in 2008 he signed a 2 year extension which would run through 2014, in 2009 he signed a 7 year extension to the contract that was supposed to end in 2014 so that would be July 2020

And he got a raise after each of his first three seasons

ohhhh no.... If OU fires Capel at the end of this year they would have to pay him through the rest of the decade! If thats true theres no way they will fire him.

Iif there is no buyout Capel can collect for 9 years and we cant do anything but pay him. There has to be one. If there isn't that was a major mistake. Especially for a contract that long.

Oh im sure that there is one also, i just dont know if its one years salary, 2, 3 ,1/2, or some other arbitrary number
