Shaka Smart - Redemption

Actually 3, but hey, if you want to ignore half the season in calculating our record in order to drive you narrative, go right ahead.

No. We’ve had 7 losing conference records since 2010. The original post was about Big12 programs. We’ve had 7 losing big12 conference seasons since 2010. That’s what I was talking about. But, hey if you wanna...nevermind.

the other difference of course is that shaka took over a program where the previous coach had been to the dance 15 of the previous 16 years (and the last 2 in a row)

lon took over a team that had gone 13-18 and 14-18 the 2 previous years and got put on probation ride before his first game started

shaka started with a roster of 1 5 star 5 4 stars 6 total top 100s kids plus Isiah Taylor as a soph PG

lon started with a roster of 0 5 star 3 4 star 3 3 top 100 kids plus transfer Osby thats it

Just because the previous coach did well doesn't automatically mean the new one will. You have to build with your players that fit your system. Shaka will have NCAA Tournaments in 3 of 5 years, with an NIT Championship. Texas is not some basketball powerhouse.

I was certainly of the opinion that he was going to get canned and doing a bad job... but in hindsight I think that would be short-sighted. He is truly loaded for next year. He should get a chance for next year. I expect a very good team.

You give him credit for 3 of 5. Interesting???

And Texas has always recruiting very very well

So in comparing us to other Big 12 schools, you believe that noncon games have zero value? So you’d rather go, say, 9-9 and 17-14 than 8-10 and 20-11? That makes no sense to me. I understand conference record is important, but not to the exclusion of all else.

I never said that. What I said was OU has been in the bottom half of the big 12 for a decade, except for 1-2 seasons. Then I said 7 losing conference seasons. Then you and boulder come to the defense of our mediocrity, as usual. Our big12 record over the last decade is indefensible. We should never be that bad. Yet, you and boulder are defending it or changing the argument altogether.

I was talking about our place in the big12. We had been the 2nd best program and now we’re falling behind.

Are you happy with where the program currently is, where we’ve been for 4 years, and/or where we are going?

in the last 10 years OU is tied for 2nd in NCAA bids 4th in Sweet 16's and 2nd in Final 4's

that is not "bottom half of the big 12"

totally agree.

It's not those results that sour me on Lon's performance. It's what I am seeing on the court in terms of effort. I do think they also picked it up but the fact it keeps happening so late in the season makes me wonder if Lon's motivational techniques don't need some tweaking. EFFORT is one of the few variables coaches have some decent control over and not doing so is a bad plan on any level.

Guys...... My plan worked perfectly. Don't you see? I totally jinxed them.
