Sooners sign Sam Grooms >>> Soonersports

Grooms signs

According to Soonersports, Grooms has signed. They have quotes from experts saying he is one of the 2 or 3 top point guards in the junior college ranks. Says he doesn't try and score but can if he wants. Says he is a top notch point defender and has great handles. Says he didn't score more because he played on a team with 4 D-1 signees and a freshman that will be one of the top 5 players in the country next year. And, his team ran a half court offense that only scored in the 60s. So, he just essentially chose not to score and distribute to the others. Sounds good, but they all do at this point in the process.

By the way, the article says he will be joined on the team next year by Goff -- so maybe the rumors that he is out are wrong.

Re: Grooms signs

Well, I could have been a multi-billionaire at this point in my life. But I chose not to be.

Glad to see the kid is signed. Hope he's every bit as good as advertised.

Like that he comes off a winning team. Hopefully that leadership rubs off on his new teamates.

Re: Grooms signs

This is a good sign.
"Defensively, he's very good on the ball, applying pressure and setting the tone out front. Defense is always important from the point guard and Sam takes a lot of pride in taking on really good opposing players. He's very strong and has a naturally strong frame."

I'm encouraged by the way Osby and Grooms have embraced a leadership role on next year's team. Most years around this time we're trying to figure out if anyone on the roster is remotely capable of being a leader. It will be nice to see players actually do more than talk about it for a change. Make it happen, guys!
