I'm holding off on blaming any reporters. I honestly believe Painter was coming and did have a last-minute change of heart after it finally set in that he was leaving his alma mater. He'll regret it later as Purdue continues to nickel and dime everything in their athletic department and he has to fight tooth and nail for every little thing he wants from the AD.

According to most sources, Martin wouldn't have been #2 either way. I have no idea who is, though. Everything had been focused on Painter pretty much from the start.
