Anyone know what's up? Hasn't been nearly as effective the last couple games. Need that pick and pop to get back in sync

It has to be the injury. He hasn't been the same since he banged his knee in that game. He struggled to get enough lift to finish shots inside and to rebound the way he have seen him do in nearly every game his entire career.

If it's the knee, LK needs to hold him out of a couple of games to give it time to heal.

Spangler starts is disappear during the end of conference play for the last two years . The only difference this year is its not even half way through and he's starting to run down .
Kruger plays the guy way too much . He and buddy will be shells of themselves within a month .
WAY too many minutes .

He isn't 100% - we really needed him tonight but he has no lift right now. He's been short on every 3 he's shot since that injury, would be great to let him sit a game or 2 to rest up but with the Big 12 gauntlet it really is hard to do it without really risking a loss.

I don't know if it's the knee, he was a beast vs WVU. I think Iowa State was just hungry tonight and normally Ryan does a lot of his damage by playing harder than the opposition.

51 minutes at KU (6-for-11, 18 boards, but visibly gassed in OT)
35 vs KSU
38 vs OSU
34 vs WVU

Knee sleeve was off vs WVU. Back on tonight. Makes me think it's an issue.

100% right about playing harder. That's his whole game.

Just didn't show up. Better check himself

It's you who should check yourself. Ryan Spangler puts it all on the line game after game. He's not a professional playing for millions; he's a college student busting his ass day in and day out for our entertainment. You have no idea if he's hurt or sick, but even if he isn't, even if he just had an off night, he doesn't deserve to get called out by the likes of us.

Yeah, I noticed the sleeve tonight. Ryan is a warrior and he will come through, just like Isaiah did tonight. These guys have proven that they will continue to work and fight to accomplish everything they can. Unless there is a legitimate injury, I'm not worried about Spangler.

They do this for their own pride and desire to win. Not for our entertainment. Spangler has worked as hard as anyone else over the last 3 years.

He had 14 rebounds against WVU. I don't think he is injured.

I hope you're right. He just wasn't himself tonight. 2 points and 6 boards is not the kind of game we usually see from Ryan Spangler. But, I'm going more by what I think I could see in the way he moved, not by the stat sheet.

I would feel a lot better if I knew he wasn't hurt.

Ryan had an amazing game against WVU. I don't know if people realize how physical WVU is down low. They turn virtually every rebound into a rugby scrum, and Ryan battled them for 14 boards and holding them below their average on offensive rebounding was a huge key to the game. That doesn't excuse tonight's performance, but if you think he "disappeared" Saturday, you weren't paying attention.

On a side note, OU hasn't gotten a lot of favors with this early Big 12 schedule this month. Right out of the gate with a tough Saturday game against ISU and then a short Big Monday turnaround to Lawrence (that went an extra 15 minutes). Then two weeks later, a Saturday game against easily the most physical team in the conference followed by a short Big Monday turnaround to Ames. Luckily, OU only has one more Saturday-Monday short turnaround this season (@ K-State then UT in Norman), which shouldn't be nearly as taxing.

My point in saying it is for our entertainment is that we fans should never become blasé about the fact that we benefit from the players' hard work, talent, blood and sweat. I was speaking not to Spangler's (or any other player's) motivation for playing the game but the overall nature of big-time athletics. It is entertainment, and as fans, we sometimes are overtaken by a sense of entitlement, feeling we're in a position to judge a player for a disappointing performance.

Spangler's given too much of himself for our university, its basketball program, his teammates and coaches, and the fans to insult him when he has an off night, whatever the reason for that subpar performance. And saying Ryan Spangler "just didn't show up" and that he needs to "check himself" is most assuredly insulting him.

Good point. Hadn't noticed that.
