I haven't been on board for several days. Did we ever hire an assistant coach?
I always like to mention Stacey. I'm not sure if he'd be interested but I do know he coached a CBA team so I think he has some interest in coaching. If he ever considered being a head college coach, doing assistant work at his old alma mater isn't a bad start.

I think he's articulate enough to be a good recruiter plus he could always provide a few sound bites. He could walk into a big guy's home wearing three NBA championship rings and play a little one-on-one and probably still hold his own.

In addition if we're ever short-handed for practice, like if one of the bigs were hurt, he could fill in. I see it as a win-win. I think you can get both Isaiah Austin and Perry Ellis if our program was in shape and if these guys felt they could work out against Stacey.

He could be a good one and one that could work with big men. I am not sure what assistant does what, but still could be good. With the money that he made in the league, do you think that he would be hungry? I read on the board from someone that Jeff Webster is out there and already coaching. I liked that idea.

Jeff Webster is coaching on the AAU circuit. I think him and Tommy griffin should be at the top of the list.

Didn't I read that Webster also has some guys that he coaches that we would like. Maybe a bonus.
Tommy Griffin is a good call as well. His two pupils are all around great people (not just basketball players). Plus, it would remove the we hired him for Blake post/articles/thoughts.

I think that is an outstanding suggestion, the more I think about it the better I like it.

I'd rather hire a coach than a story or gimmick.

Stacey has a great job with the announcing team for the Chicago Bulls.
He's pretty established there. I don't think that he would be leaving for an assistant job.

I don't know if Tommy would take the job at OU- but his coaching ability, discipline and character would be welcome imo.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been praying for either Tommy or Jeff to get the job, either of them (for different reasons) would be great hires.

I am praying for an older coach to get the nod. Someone with a LOT of mileage.

Jeff and I are the same age, 39. I played against him in 9th grade, and he and my wife were classmates at Carl Albert.

I was just making a joke about being old...thanks for the information though. With ties to the program and everything that is going on down in the DFW area, I'd like to think that Jeff gets interviewed.

Tommy has said that he stepped down from the AD job so he could travel more and see Taylor and Blake play. I doubt he takes an assistant position before Blake's an NBA game.

And it's not like Tommy needs the money or the hassle. Pretty sure with two sons in the NBA he's set for life. Might as well enjoy the second half of life rather than chase around, begging the 17 year old spoiled brats on the AAU circuit to come to Oklahoma.
