Oklahoma women face toughest test this season at No. 10 Oregon

A second-half surge in Tuesday’s win at Colorado State allowed the Oklahoma women’s basketball team to slide into Thanksgiving Day with clear minds.

The next test will be much tougher.

OU (3-1) takes the first real bite into its tough schedule Saturday against No. 10 Oregon (4-1) for the PK80 Invitational in Eugene, Oregon.
It’s the second leg of OU’s three-game road trip that concludes next week at Arkansas Little-Rock.
The Sooners took plenty of good things, at least defensively, from their 78-46 win at CSU. OU’s offense will need to find another gear against the Ducks, who are enjoying their highest ranking since 2000 and allow just 65.8 points per game.

Here are a few things to know going into the game.
• There’s a great matchup: Oregon’s Sabrina Ionecu secured a 16-point, 10-rebound, 11-assist triple-double earlier this season in the Ducks’ 83-68 win over then-No. 19 Texas A& M. She had four tripledoubles last season to set a school record.
OU veteran guard Maddie Manning could draw the defensive assignment against the versatile 5-foot-10 Ionecu, who averages a team-high 17 points.
At 6 foot 2 with long arms, Manning is capable of lock-down performances. She kept Belmont’s 5-foot-11 Kylee Smith to just five points through nearly three quarters in OU’s season opener, before Smith finished with 11 points.
• There are two 3-point stars: OU’s Gabbi Ortiz has hit 11 3-pointers combined in her last two outings and is shooting 48.5 percent from long range. She’s a big reason why OU leads the Big 12 in made 3s per game (9.0).
Oregon guard Lexi Bando is a career 46.1 3-point shooter and not far behind the NCAA career record of 47.6 set by Notre Dame’s Alicia Ratay from 2000-03.
• Ana Llanusa is coming on: The freshman guard has scored in doublefi gures in the past three games after finishing with 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting off the bench against SMU.
OU’s three freshmen — which include starting forward Mandy Simpson and reserve guard Shaina Pellington — are playing a major role. Together they average 28.3 points and 13.1 rebounds.
• OU has defensive momentum: This was a worrisome area after DePaul clipped the Sooners 111-108 last week, much thanks to 19 made 3-pointers.

The Sooners have guarded the line much better lately.

They held Colorado State to just 30 percent shooting and limited the Rams to 46 points, their lowest point total this season. CSU also managed just 4 of 21 from 3-point range.
