Big 12 Presidents/Chancellors voted them in this morning per multiple reports on twitter.

Thoughts on how this affects OU Hoops?

TCU has never been a strong basketball program. I think teams #11 and #12 (if they even happen) will likely have more effect.

We're moving up in the conference standings, that's for sure. Christian is a lame duck, he won't last after this year.

TCU is a good replacement for Texas A&M, and I think their location in Dallas provides a great opportunity for their athletic programs and national exposure as a university.

Here is a little blurb I found:

The New York Times' Pete Thamel reports the Big East was notified Thursday morning of TCU's intent to leave for the Big 12. Thamel also reports that TCU has scheduled a board meeting and will likely make the announcement soon.

The Horned Frogs will have to pay a $5 million exit fee in order to nix their relocation to the Big East, but they won't be subject to the same 27-month waiting period that struck Syracuse and Pitt upon the announcement of their ACC jaunt. This is because TCU was never actually a Big East team.

As for the affect on OU basketball, that's a tough call. We are heading into uncharted waters here. Will TCU get high profile Texas recruits now? Maybe. Are they in a better position in basketball to succeed long-term more than Colorado and Nebraska? Most definitely.

TCU adds little or nothing.
The Big 12 already had the dallas market. Adding them does nothing. Their football program while good right now will not be able to have the kind of conference records they have had in the Big 12.
Basketball is a freaking joke.
Baseball is pretty good.

Blah...
Only thing it does is allow for a short drive for Sooner fans.

I agree that it helps TCU. But at the same time, that hurts OU as well. Another Texas program that OU will have to compete against for recruiting.

I don't think it will greatly hurt OU, but it certainly hurts them more than it helps.

Agreed. Why not expand the Big 12's footprint? The conference already owns the DFW area.

Not shocking the Big 12 went this route, given the conference's inept decision making since it existed in 1996.

I would have prefered Houston over TCU because it helps with the Houston television market. I would like to see Louisville and Memphis added. That would make for a strong basketball conference. KU, OU, Texas, OSU, Lousiville, and Memphis are all pretty big names in basketball. Arguably they are all top 25 all time programs with KU clearly being a top 5 or so program.

Really though, being in the Big 12 will only help their basketball program. They should have a decent team this year, and we will see what this Big 12 news means in terms of commits. They are basically putting a help wanted sign out that says, "We play in the big 12 and you can start right away", which could be appealing to some players.

I have no problem with this move. I was hoping for South Florida INSTEAD of TCU, but I think everyone can live with the Horned Frogs. At the very least, it will be interesting to see if putting them in the Big 12 sinks them or proves they can swim.

I do think this will hurt OSU football a little bit. About half their team is from the Dallas area, and now there is a team IN THIS LEAGUE that has played in some BCS bowls and have another option when they don't get offered by OU or Texas.

TCU needs new facilities to compete in basketball...a move to the Big XII won't help them alone.

We still may have room for South Florida.

TCU is not in Dallas. It's next to Colonial Country Club in west Fort Worth.

Lost in all of this is that Texas agrees not to show any HS content on LHN but gets the option of having 2 or 3 games (conference games) on the LHN.

Our administration has really screwed up royally if that is the case.

Have to say, I'm pretty underwhelmed.

Why? We just added the reigning Rose Bowl champion from the same region we lost an inferior team (A&M).

The conference improved and we got rid of two underachieving malcontents.

This affects OU's recruiting in a major way. Dallas area prospects can stay at home and still play in a BCS conference. TCU is already recruiting many of the same players in 2013 that OU is recruiting.

I don't have a good reason, admittedly.

Sittler is tweeting that the conference will stay at 10 for the time being if Mizzou remains, but if they leave Louisville is next, with BYU, WVU and Tulane behind them.

Tulane would be fine with me, because it would make for kickass road trips.

Texas A&M has been a good basketball program for most of the last 6 or 7 years or so. TCU has been to two NCAA Tournaments since it expanded to 64 teams. They will be by far the worst program in the Big 12, they aren't even in the same class as the worst programs in the conference.
