TCU moves to 10-0. Best start in school history.

I never said they don't mean anything. Look at 2009-10 OU- More McDonalds All-Americans combined on that team than probably ever at OU, yet they had one of the worst records in school history. I know that's an outlier and so was the UL example, but it does prove that you CAN win with a star player who wasn't highly valued in high school.

True. But the year before we had 2 mcdonalds aa's and we went to the elite 8 only to lose to the team that had around 8 mcdonalds aa's and 4 stars that were top 100.

I don't believe that I have ever said anything like that, but You have to make the final four to have a chance at the NC. And both groups had 1 NC.

But yet its teams with 5 and 4 star recruits winning championships.

Im sorry but Kruger isnt going to be the coach to be the first to win one without the talent other teams have that have been winning championships.

So if you want a shot at a championship then you should want better recruits. If not then continue supporting the juco, 3 starrish players. Thats perfectly fine. I totally support your decision.

Yes, but that team was really Blake Griffin. I know Warren was hurt most of his sophomore year but he was not as good as his freshman year because Griffin made everyone around him better. He was truly an elite talent that carried us to the elite 8 with really good role players (crocker was great against cuse) We really have gone on a tangent from TCU 10-0 huh? I am a full believer in the "1 star player can turn a whole program around" (Blake as a sophomore elevated OU for that year).

But do you believe we are a 5 star talent away from a final four? (Hield, Thomas, Lattin, Buford, Woodard(some sites) were all 4 stars on various sites) so if you threw in a top 15 stud, would you be able to say OU had the talent to go very deep?

True. But other teams have guys like Anthony Davis, Carmelo Anthony, Tyler Hansbrough. And those guys had several guys surrounding them not just a willie warren.

It takes more then just one top recruit to win.

Kruger is turning water into wine. If he got wine he could probably turn it into gold. So yes. We get Shake Milton and Alonzo trier. Who knows how far we could go. Arizona got Alonzo. Let's see how far they go next year.

I may be splitting hairs, but Blake Griffin was more than a "star player" -- he wasn't just some random 4- or 5-star guy.

He ended up being the number one overall pick in the NBA draft.

That's not just a "star player" -- that's a transcendent player.

I did say he turned the program around didn't I? It was implied that he was the best player at OU since probably Tisdale or Mookie Blaylock

It's like I always wonder, If Calipari recruited the players, and Bill Self coached them, how many national titles would that team win? I know Self gets a ton of great players out of high school, but man can that guy get his team ready for March second to none, maybe Izzo

And I still contend that if we were in any other region that year, we make the Final Four. I think we played UNC as tight as anyone that year. They were deep with talent and experience.

Don't lose to osu in the Big 12 tourney and we wont be in the region. No one to blame but ourselves

Let's not kid ourselves. They wanted a Griffin vs Hansbrough matchup and they got it. UNC was the best team that year and we sure we're not the 8th best team. Especially since we battled them the best.

Had nothing to do with who they wanted and everything to do with the results. OU lost 4 of their last 6 and bowed out of the quarterfinals against OSU. If you look at the schedule, the last ranked team OU beat before the NCAAs was the beginning of January.

Since TCU represented the bottom of the barrel in the Big 12, to see them improve and make the Big 12 a better conference, is great. I grew up in Ft. Worth, a great town with a very good school in TCU, but since the late 40's, they have never been known as BB school except for a few seasons. I'm proud of them. That said, I am picking them no higher that 8th in the Big 12.

Out of high school:
Jordan Woodard: 3 star with no national position ranking.
Isaiah Cousins: 3 star with no national position ranking.
Buddy Hield: 4 star, #17 shooting guard and #86 overall player
Ryan Spangler: 3 star with no national position ranking.
TaShawn Thomas: 3 star, #21 power forward and #113 overall player

Out of high school:
Kyan Anderson: 3 star with no national position ranking.
Trey Zeigler: 4 star, #4 shooting guard and #28 overall player
Brandon Parrish: 3 star, #29 small forward
Chris Washburn: #29 power forward, #119 overall player
Karviar Shepherd: #7 center, #65 overall player

Which team would you guess is 10-0 and which team would you guess is 6-2?

All that being said, I am not confident enough in TCU to say they will make a huge jump in the standings, or even be better than OU. What I am saying is that it's not surprising they are 10-0, and on paper, have a more talent than OU does. OU found some gems in Cousins and Spangler and they were clearly underrated in high school, but let's not act like this is your typical TCU team.

Yeah they aren't near as talented as OU and are a typical TCU team. 1-9 in conference. I do think they are better than Texas Tech though.

BigAbd, what's it worth for me to close this thread permanently? ;)
