Good article. I find myself being won over by the 'Buzz' crowd.
 
The more I learn about Buzz Williams, the more convinced I become that he should be OU's #1 target.
 
Buzz would be good and a safe hire. He should be on the list. His teams at Marq have had slightly worse records every year but still good records. I would be happy with him.
 
Anyone that can win 20 games a year in the Big East can coach in the Big XII. Plus, he is recruiting kids from Texas to Milwaukee, he can definitely get them to OU.
 
Is it just me or does Marquette to OU seem like a lateral move at best?
 
I'm desperate already for a real break in the story. When will the first leak from inside sources surface? I don't even care if they are legit leaks, just some "inside source" rumors would satsify me right now.

I agree it could be a lateral move, but since he has ties to this part of the country maybe he wants to be closer to home. He seems like a perfect fit for OU.

He has connections to Oklahoma (the state). He would be going from the 6th or 7th best program in the Big East to the 2nd or 3rd best program.

The down side is that he would be going from a currently successful program to a reclamation project.
 
Geez its beyond me how lowly many perceive the OU job. Yeah, right now we suck but also, but if you wanted to be positive, you could say OU is a sleeping giant. Like they say, two or three bigtime recruits away from competing! OU proved in the last decade that they can have greatness in football and basketball. Like Joe C. said OU has great facilities, good recruiting region, and name. Now, are we gonna be like Dookie overnight? No. But dang we are on a level with Sam Houston State right now. Which is why (un)capelable had to go.

He makes $1.1 million, that may force Joe C. to open the checkbook but I think it would be a great move for the basketball program.

If he can win 20 and be competitive in the Big East, that's good enough for me.

I think OU's a better job than Marquette. Not by a bunch, but an advantage OU has is recruiting area. Texas has a lot of talent.
 
Count me in. If we can't get, or don't want BCG, I'll take a guy that was his assistant at one time. Buzz sounds about as "safe" as we can hope for, I think.

yeah but he lost 14. and his record has gotten worst despite some solid recruiting. not against BUzz...just not sold yet
 
According to a radio interview with Gottlieb, which I just posted, OU is a better job than Marquette.

He cites the fact OU can better compete in the Big 12 than Marquette in the Big East as one reason. He also says the fact OU had 3 coaches who "won big in the last 25 years" while Marquette had a 15-20 year period of mediocrity before they hired Crean.
 
Also Marquette is a private school, and harder to get up to date facilities.
