Why do you say that? Do you really believe OU will abandon the LNC?

He's more than likely just referring to the exhibition game and regular season game we will be playing there. No way OU abandons Lloyd Noble. Don't be nuts people.

This, we are not going to permanently move from a 11,500 person capacity building to one with a 5000 person capacity.

True, I'm thinking it'd be difficult to remodel the building in anyway to increase capacity. Although, we really haven't had very many sell out seasons in the LNC, and it itself wasn't designed very well for a ball court (or even remodeled well). If they, somehow, could get the capacity at the field house to 8k would they consider the move then?

I sure hope not.

They sell A LOT of tickets.

Getting people to the games is a different story, but they sell plenty of tickets with regards to how the team is doing. Doubt they want to throw that revenue away.

I'm certainly in the minority, but for the most part I'm fine with LNC. Is it a great basketball arena? No. But it's more than adequate. Both Billy and Kelvin had a lot of success there.

I can GUARANTEE you, there is no motion within OU to move to the Field house full time...

There should be. They could expand it up (like GIA) and to the north and get it to 8K (the perfect number for OU basketball imo).

Advantages:

- It would cost a lot less than blowing up the LNC and starting from scratch
- Right on campus - great for students, great for campus corner eateries
- Parking and the bottle neck of highway 9 - folks can park all over campus and in surrounding lots (just like they do in football). It would make leaving Norman so much easier after the game.
- Historic building with lots of past OU basketball history
- Keep the LNC for city concerts, graduations, events - the practice courts and offices could stay right where they are.

It would be EXCELLENT for OU basketball imo if they renovated and upgraded the fieldhouse. It makes a lot of sense if you think about the numbers game and campus location. With the Thunder here to stay - we need a smaller, louder venue in order to get a decent homecourt advantage.

Boomer!

My dad, a longtime hoops season ticket holder and OKC resident, is annoyed that they're holding even two games at the field house. He feels that LNC is a much quicker in-and-out location than the field house, and I have to agree with him. You're just adding the difficulty of navigating narrow Norman streets to the task by playing games on campus. And I'm not sure that many people are looking to be closer to dining spots and bars. There's not time for all that before most of the games. When my mom was alive, my parents very rarely ate in Norman when they attended basketball games.

As for increasing the number of ways people can leave after games, people can leave by some route other than Hwy 9 now, but they don't choose to, not in large numbers.

The Field House would be good for students, and that's about it.

Cops/road-blocks make you go out the same way. It is very difficult to go another route.

I agree with you about not everyone having time to dine on a 7 pm weeknight game but for the folks that live in Norman (and the students), it would surely boost gameday atmosphere to have the campus corner restaurants buzzing with OU bball fans (not to mention after a big win with folks walking across the street to celebrate).

I am going to attend the two fieldhouse games this year and will take a closer look at some of the logistical issues. I am also interested to see what the accoustics are like in there as I never have attended a wrestling or volleyball match.

Another thing about the field hose is that the floor is in apparently bad shape. Players were slipping and sliding into the splits. It may be just a different shoe issue. But, if that doesn't solve it, I would think it would be wise to keep the kids off of it.

I saw M'Baye almost do the splits (Lon made a comment about it on the video).

They definitely need to address this prior to the exhibition game.

Exactly! And McCasland doesn't hold 5,000 anymore. It's between 3 and 4 thousand now.

As for the flooring, I'm sure they could bring the flooring from LNC.

3300 at the field house ...

if we make the dance this year we will have 9k+ season ticket holders next season ..

and it has not been that long 2004 that we had over 12k season ticket holders

Isn't capacity only 11,500 or so? How could we have had 12,000 ticket holders?

Parking would be a huge issue, but I like the idea. I know they wouldn't demo the LNC (especially with the recent practice facility improvements), but that would be a good temporary location if they decided to rebuild it.
