The future home of Sooner Basketball

Have we already reached the point of the off-season where posters who don't go to games complain about attendance while having their own excuses for not going to games? I sweet we were just discussing this a couple of months ago...

BT (the one doing most of the ranting and raving) has likely done more to improve attendance at the LNC than the rest of us here combined...

Do you like having the eye sore of empty seats? Do you not realize how much it effects our program? Do you realize that the faded Nebraska red seats look horrible? Do you not understand that OU has lost fan interest from the corporate/donor community since the Thunder came to town? Do you not think that the athletic department can make up the lost revenue of the ticket sales of reducing the arena to 8-10k? Do you not think I realize that we sell more than 8k per game? Did you know that OSU absolutely torches us in basketball facilities? Did you know TCU just got a new Bball arena? Nebraska? Do you not realize that having the same 4,500 butts in seats in an 8k arena looks much better than in our current 12K arena?
I agree with what you are saying...but OSU might have better facilities, but they still have terrible attendence.

This program deserves better. Period.

I love you BT, but at some point the issue has to fall to the fans. Using the facilities excuse is weak imo. The LNC is rocking when it is full and is fine. Last year attendence was really good. Keep putting a good team on the floor and the fans will come. When the fans come, the LNC is fine.

Lol at anyone who doesn't think the faded red/orange (who cares what color they are) seats don't look like complete dogs%#*t contrasted to the padded seats in the lower bowl. At least fix that while we are all waiting...

the orange seats have to go

2 options
1) Build a new arena
2) Fix the LNC (reduce seating and fix seating configuration)

Lol at everyone thinking donor donations for men's basketball and total seats sold at men's basketball is what is at all helping this athletic department. Just tell the donors they need to make up whatever the difference is to get Texas tickets for football - problem solved. Basketball helps OU's bottom line/national prestige with National TV appearances and during March. Fix the fan issue or it will hurt these two things.

Amen!

FWIW, TCU didn't get a new basketball arena. They simply renovated what was a bigger HS gym and most of the improvements were in the corridors and I assume the locker rooms. The hardwood floor is new, but the seating/sight lines in the arena aren't good and didn't improve much if at all IMO. I would take LNC over TCU.

But yes, OU's basketball program deserves better.

Lower the capacity and up the ticket prices.
That wouldn't work. My dad has tickets to both football and basketball and he has to donate more to the school to keep his basketball tickets than he does to keep his football tickets.

I was going to say the same thing. They just did a remodel.

With all the money that's been put into the practice facilities and now the BG weight room (or whatever it's called) it really makes ZERO sense to abandon the LNC and play elsewhere. They plan to improve the LNC just as soon as the funding is there. The price of oil/gas increasing will help as well.

Also, as others have said, fan attendance will improve once the team starts winning again, which is next season. The best way to hide those light red seats is to put some butts in the seat.

Those of you who complain would be better served to call Joe and commit to a big donation to help upgrade the LNC to where you think it needs to be. Money talks.

Have you been to TCU since the remodel? I would argue it was putting lipstick on a pig. It needed to be done, but their arena is still the worst in the conference. They did add the trophy gallery for all the TCU sports. OU could do the same for all their sports, but it would take up a building the size of TCU's arena. LOL

No, but I remember how bad it was before the remodel just from watching on TV. It does look better from the TV than it did before.

Baylor also needs to upgrade the Ferrell Center. I think it's as bad if not worse than TCU's arena. Both are the worst in the conference. From a TV standpoint WVa looks worse than the LNC too. I would probably prefer the LNC over GIA honestly.

The only facilities in the Big 12 I would prefer over the LNC are KU, ISU, and Tech. Maybe Texas but it used to be similar to the LNC. I think OU could make the LNC layout more like Texas which would make the LNC much better.

OU, KSU and GIA, to me, are all very similar. Each has positives and negatives.

i like to live in reality .... OU is not going to tell donors they can't buy basketball seats ...

no program in the country would .. a huge number of the lower level basketball seats require a 750 a ticket donation .. plus the higher cost of ticket .. so for 4 seats .. we are talking about 5k+ for the season of 16 games or 80 bucks a ticket give or take

That wouldn't work. My dad has tickets to both football and basketball and he has to donate more to the school to keep his basketball tickets than he does to keep his football tickets.

this is the same for my family

gia is a terrible place to attend a game if you are not in the first 15 or so rows ...

and OU has among the best back of house facilities in the conf (locker rooms practice gyms .. and soon to be a best in the country strength/performance center)

and ou will upgrade the LNC it just will not happen until the football renovations are done ...

LNC will have 6(at least) suites and lots of club seating (with a true court side club lounge) and the orientation of the seats will change

Exactly. You have to be courtside or in the first 5 rows of the old upper deck to have a good seat in GIA. Pretty much every seat in the LNC is a good seat from a viewers perspective

Build a new arena, fill Lloyd Noble with water and use for a diving pool.
