The NBA Playoffs/Thunder/Blake Thread

Why is it surprising that a guy's field goal percentage goes down when he plays every game against playoff level teams instead of the normal NBA schedule?

Because aside from his first year in the playoffs, and his 5 games of this series which are 11 of the 59 playoffs games he's played, his shooting percentages are not dipping precipitously from his regular season totals, and are quite solid.

So yes, I'm in agreement with you. Kevin Durant usually shoots well, but slightly less than his regular season averages, against the stiffer competition in the playoffs.

A lot of truth in this post. Kevin has basically disapeared the last three games, but When you are in the playoffs teams get to game plan just for you, and the teams are better than the Bucks, Kings, Lakers, 76ers, etc.

This is squarely on Brooks for not have any adjustments and no real strategy outside of the Iso play and the Jack up the contested three with the shot/game clock running down

Still an average game for kd standards. This is what happens when he plays average and the refs call the game evenly

So why all the criticism of the new headline this morning? I think people would have criticized it no matter what but I think it's perfect. Those that don't probably don't realize all the meanings.

Kevin Up.

Kevin's play was up.
It's a play on thunder up.
It's a play on seven up. You know bc we are going to game seven.

I think this is the biggest difference. KD and RW have been getting mugged this series. This is the first game it has been called. They've let them play the rest of the series, which is an enormous advantage for Memphis, since they are a handsy team anyway, and we rely on getting to the line. If games 2-5 are called like a normal game, we would have been in the bonus 3 minutes into each quarter and this series would have been 4-1 at worst.

I'm not saying the series was called uneven...just that the decision to allow slaps and holds on defense greatly benefits Memphis over OKC.

Goes back to the lack of scheme/strategy/structure.

KD looked a lot better last night, but he was also creating more space. Tip of the cap to Joerger for keeping Prince in the game so long, he is awful.

Biggest difference last night was RW's patience. When OKC moves the ball, good things happen.

How Memphis is in the series I don't get. Offensively challenged as much as any team I have seen in the playoffs.

B/c OKC has continuously let Memphis drive by them. I have no idea why. It's not like connely or allen or prince are super quick but even their bigs are getting ahead of our defenders. it's weird to see

and yes, RW was great last night. You could clearly see that he was thinking more and being more patient. He had a great game

I also liked Brook's move to start Butler instead of Sefolosha. That gave Memphis another scorer besides KD and RW to think about.

Can't hit somebody in the head. Period. No tolerance especially when it's not a basketball play.
Yea even though it was a "shove," the league has made it clear no contact to face. I've only seen it once, so I don't want to say 100% it warranted a suspension, but a suspension is consistent with NBA protocol for anything above the neck. I recall thinking it was odd it wasn't reviewed at the time, the crew must not have seen it being away from the ball. TNT crew didn't really mention it either.

That's a big blow especially if Conley is lame. I assume Memphis goes small and starts Allen, does a lot of trapping and flying around.

Edit: Upon review, easy call for NBA for suspension, definitely a punch to the jaw:

Easy call. What a stupid move by Z-Bo. He finally overcame his reputation for stuff like that a few years ago. Boy did he hurt his team.....

I said earlier, and I say again, memphis is one Closer to being a very good team. I was just wondering what you guys think they would have been like with Rudy Gay on this team?? At least he would have been a go to guy when they need it. They looked totally lost in game 6. No agression, no intensity, etc..... They looked like a team with good pieces, but no Closer.

That was nothng more than a frustration play by Z-Bo. But Silver needs to be zero tolerance on certain things and the fans of the game need to stick behind him. Z-Bo is not a bad guy. What he did is not a big deal. But the price is the price.

you guys are 100% on about Conley just dribbling right by the defense to the hole. For most of this series these guys act like they are just powerless to stop him. It was nice to see that they could still put up a fight when their backs were to the wall.

Kinda have mixed emotions about the Portland-Houston series. They're not my favorite team, but I've always liked Houston. But I'm also enjoying Terry Stotts' successful run as Portland's head coach. I knew Stotts at OU and thought he was a really good guy, and a very underappreciated Sooner star of the past (and from my era). I also thought he would have been a good choice to replace Capel at OU, if Kruger hadn't come. Stotts was still an assistant with the Mavs at the time.

well, the last few minutes of that Houston/Portland game were awesome. We saw Howard actually play like he should and Portland overcome some bad luck to get an amazing shot off with 0.9 seconds left ... after Parsons amazing shot to get it to that point.

GREAT ending!

I agree. Stotts was one of my favorite players when I was a youngster. I use to listen to the games on KTOK radio in OKC.....

As a Houston fan, it was a horrible ending!

I watched all 6 games of the series. I think it was possibly the most competitive series that I have ever seen. 3 OT games, and only one game decided by double digits. It seemed that every game was back and forth. Great series!
