The roster is in chaos right now

Agreed. I think he is a pretty big need at this point. I just object to the notion that he is good enough to turn this team around. I don't think he is.

I don't think he's a program changer, but I believe he'd make the team a lot better. I'm still not sold on Trice, but if KD leaves then I think he'd serve a purpose.

Doolittle isn't leaving.

If anybody else is leaving, it'll be Freeman.

I’ve heard some “smoke” about Odomes, too..... but we need him on the court. Best defensive player on the team but an offensive liability.... but I bet Bienemy starts over him next year. I think Bienemy would have started over McGusty, too.

We all knew Trae was leaving and we needed a PG. I’m not sure we’ve lost anyone else who would have started for us next year..... McNeace, Manek, Doolittle, James, Odomes, Bienemy plus a transfer PG. Those are our core players. Heck, I even have a lot of hope for Polla.

The sky isn’t falling.

I agree we need him on the court. To me he is only a liability on offense because of his FT shooting and I see no reason why that can’t improve a lot. If we get away from everyone standing around why the PG tries to create on his own we won’t need him to be a 3pt shooter. If we can get some motion going he will find more creases to drive IMO.

I don’t know anything about Bienemy but hope is is ready to play.

You know how many seasons Sampson and Tubbs didn't reach 20 wins in their combined 26 seasons?

4 times. Lon is on pace to match that in his 8th.

Tubbs and Sampson are the two best coaches in OU basketball history. The favorable "tradition" of OU basketball really comes from that 26 year stretch. Year-after-year of 20 win seasons really add up. Those 20-Win seasons used to be taken for granted.

The Big 8/12 is a significantly more competitive conference now than it was during their tenures. How often in the 1980s, '90s and early 2000s did the conference get touted as the best in the country? I don't recall it ever happening.

JUCOs were also a much richer source of quick-fix players then than now.

In short, different eras. We've had posters insisting that Kevin Bookout and even that hoary oldtimer Ryan Spangler couldn't play in today's game, for pete's sake. But we're going to compare Billy and Kelvin to Lon straight up, as if nothing's changed?

Are you really that simple minded?!?! The Big 12 now is a HELL of a lot better than it was when Kelvin was here!! A&M and Baylor were 4 guaranteed wins back in the day...and K-State was about the same!! Tell me how many teams are guaranteed sweeps in the Big 12 these days??

Things aren't EVER as good as they seem and things aren't EVER bad as they seem...

I look at this as opportunity for fresh blood. And that can always be an exciting thing.

this is exactly why I dont bother with meters for success like "make the ncaa's" or "get 20 wins".

This year was a prime example of "making the ncaa tourney" being a bad measurement for our season.

to define whether or not I believe a season was successful I look to see if they have progressively improved.

I don't think he is an offensive liability. There were times where he took over the game. He needs to be more consistant and develope a threat of a jump shot.

I think he could be transferring bc there were some key moments in games where he should have been on the floor and wasn't. He was one of the more complete players we have and needed more tiem on the court

Yep. And that is my problem with Lon. OU isn't the kind of program where you can consistently have those big swings in results, and expect to always bounce back. The program needs consistency in order to stay strong. I really believe that.

That is garbage. OSU fielded some darn good teams back in those days. Mizzou was usually good. KU was KU. ISU was typically a lot better. Heck, even Colorado and Nebraska had the occasional good teams. The competitiveness of the Big 12 now vs the Big 8 or early Big 12 isn't all that different. That is simply an excuse if it's the argument you are trying to make.

thats a fair assessment. your point is a strong one.

I happen to prefer the cycle. But staying bottomed out too long could happen.

Why would anyone like the cycle? Unless the lows are still good years and the peaks are really good year.
