The talk about Doolittle playing the 3 needs to be put to bed

He's not a 3. Why our bigs, and I'm including Doolittle in the bigs even though he's undersized, try to handle the ball is beyond me. Why they can't put the ball in the goal with force is also beyond me. We are so soft.

I like Doo, but he needs to be used exactly like a traditional power forward. Stop giving him the ball at the top of the wing and on the wing. Let him catch it down low and beat someone with his quickness.

He is a good player..... just getting screwed by trying to make him a wing.

He is a good player, probably our best player but he needs to stop handling the ball. He's a turnover waiting to happen.

The problem is Doo can't finish down low either.. Tonight how many times was he contested or blocked?? My only argument him being at the 3 would be that it may help us on defense and of course rebounding.

The problem is, we're not a good team with him at the 4 either. We just aren't good enough at the 5 to get away with having him at the 4. When your bigs are Doolittle and Manek, you are going to get killed inside.

I don't disagree with this thread in general, but I actually thought one of our very, very few bright spots offensively against Baylor was Doo at the high post/in the lane. It didn't seem like we were forcing him to play the 3 last night?

Most of the time Doolittle is on the floor he's actually the 5 be default, unless McNeace or Polla are on the floor. Manek is always at the 3pt line and never guarding the opposing teams center.

Manek doesn't guard anyone no matter where he's playing.

When he put the ball on the floor, which he did down the stretch he turned it over. Thus this thread.

He is probably our best player, besides Odomes. That is the big problem. He's a solid player but when he's your best player the talent isn't good enough.

Yes. Doolittle is another guy suffering from Cade Davis syndrome. Rock solid player who could help any team, but needs to be a 4th or 5th starter or first guy off the bench. You're in big trouble when you are asking a guy like him to carry your team.


You are also correct that he is not a wing. He's an undersized 4 100%.

He can rebound, he can score... he just needs to stop catching the ball on the perimeter and trying to drive it to the rim. It's not him. All these tweener guys want to be guards because they see 6'7'' guards in the NBA, but Doo isn't going to the NBA.

Strap him to a chair and make him watch old footage of Aaron McGhee... he isn't that talented but McGhee was usually planted in the low post or setup to take jumpers. He didn't put the ball on the floor a ton or try to be a wing.

Freddie Jonzen or Mario Boggan from OSU would be good for him as well.

Doolittle had the ball on the block on numerous occasions and got his shot blocked trying to shoot directly over a bigger player. Doolittle is not a 5 and cannot be effective as a 5. He needs to be properly utilized and the hybrid SF/PF that he is.

after getting blocked several times last night...(yeah no new news) ...I would like to see him face up and shoot 5 to 12 footers. He's done that this season and been successful.

Problem, IMHO, was against the 1/3/1 our guys were coming to high...up to the FT line. That is too high...stay a little lower with 1 guy on the short block...basically get a 2/1 situation....but guess that was too hard.

They needed to keep looking for those baseline jumpers in the gap of the zone or swing the ball quickly for corner 3's or kick out from the high post. But this team doesn't move the ball well enough to take advantage of a 1-3-1. Everyone want's to put their head down and dribble to the basket without a plan.

Doo is being forced into more of a 5 at times because we have no one else. I had no issue with him getting a few blocked. That is going to happen to us based on who we have on the floor. He is still our best player this year.

But he should never be playing 2/3 and bringing the ball up the floor.

I need to clarify, I'm not being critical of Doolittle. He frustrates me at times, but every OU basketball player has except maybe Wayman. He's just not a 3, never has been and never will be, but he's still an excellent college player and I'm glad he plays for OU.

Inasmuch as there is a "3" on the court for OU, Doolittle doesn't play it. This rant makes as much sense as me posting a separate thread ranting about Bieniemy playing the 5.
