Spangler and Bennett combined for 5 points and 8 rebounds. When OU was playing really well this year, Spangler was looking like an all conference player. He got completely shut down in this game.

Sure, you could point out defense, guards, turnovers, etc.. but when you get zero production from your big guys, have no rebounding from them, and the entire team doesnt have a shot-blocker, gonna be hard to win games like this one. I thought OU was lucky it even got to overtime.

It's pretty sad when you look at NDSU and they are bigger than you. OU is a big 12 school. Why is their tallest post player 6'6'' or 6'7''?

Hopefully Lattin gives OU that athletic shot blocker in the paint.

Because Kruger was left with nothing when he arrived. He and his coaches worked wonders with Clark and Neal. The ONLY junior we have a JC transfer. Another JC guy never showed because he supposedly thought he would never get to play. Everyone else is a sophomore or freshman. You have to have balance between your inside game and outside game and we have hardly any inside game at all. Spangler does his very best, but he's undersized for the position. It makes it very difficult to pay offense and rebound. And in spite of all of that, we did much better than most people expected this year.

No doubt about it. I am just saying OU is too small to be some great defensive team. They don't physically have the makeup to be a really good defensive team.

Exactly. We have to help on the inside way too much and an experienced team is going to take advantage of it.

because M'Baye decided to leave a year early, D. Elliott did not qualify out of Juco and K. Hamilton left the team weeks before the season started. not making excuses but not much OU could do recruiting was basically over for the late spring period...

I'm equally perplexed about Spangler's regression over the last few games. Maybe he was just worn down. It's obvious that he often has to do battle with bigger, heavier players -- and that's been true for most of the season.

Spangler needs to be playing the Power Forward position, and I believe that's what he'll play next year. But he helped win us a ton of games with his huge heart and effort, so I refuse to be critical of the kid. Ryan's a warrior and he'll improve a ton next season.

I don't disagree necessarily with anything you said, but did it not dawn on this coaching staff that we were going to need help in the interior when Osby was going to graduate? Why wasn't getting another solid big man or two an emphasis the day that they arrived? That's my big question.

We gotta get some bigger bodies. If we had one other tall big man with Spangler we would be exponentially better. Is Lattin going to be able to be that dude? I really hope so.

I believe amath's jump to the wnba took Kruger by surprise, to be fair.

I think the bench not producing was a huge factor.

We typically had 1 senior and no juniors on the floor. Experience does matter but matters most in big games. We saw more uncharacteristic plays from our young guys, a few of those worked out but most resulted in turnovers or fouling at the worst times. This team overachieved but sadly not in Spokane.

Amen, I totally agree. There is a big difference in his 30 min a game and a guards 30 min a game. Big men are doing constant battle underneath and they tend to wear down. Ryan battled alot of big men thru the year and did a great job for us. He is a warrior and helped us win alot of wins. Another thing I thought about was, we started very early going to Europe, which indeed helped us with a young team, but I just wonder if that an effect on the team.

Sure it had an effect. We wouldn't have won as many games in the non conference.

I totally agree, I think the trip was very beneficial and helped this team alot, itt just seems the last couple of games they seemed not as emotional and seemed like they were tired.

Furthermore,
1) a big man as more court to run--basket to basket instead of perimeter to perimeter like a guard
2) big man has to run that further distance in the same amount of time that the guard runs a shorter distance, so the big is running faster
3) big man has more mass to move

In physics: force equals mass times velocity and work equals force times distance.
and big man has more mass, velocity and distance---> a lot more work.

Can't believe D'Andre Wright chose Tulsa over us as hard as we recruited him. Guess we just weren't good enough.

Yes this hurts. I am sure Kruger is looking across the globe for post players but so is everyone else.
