This should be interesting - name our best lineup...

You are probably dead on...but lately I've taken a liking to McNease over Lattin. At least Jamuni has a post-up game.

I certainly keep giving Shep a chance until he shows he is not there yet but he looked great on Sat. I still like Jamuni off the bench. He will get his minutes either way. I like CM's lineup.

Unless Doolittle start to aggressive rebound and play tough inside (Buford is hopeless), I will start:

Sheperd
Woodward
James
Lattin
McNease.

We will clean up all the rebounds and swat away any attempt go inside. Then when one of Lattin, McNease get into foul trouble I will sub in Freeman.

Give me Jamuni instead of Lattin, and I agree with that lineup.

Whoever is at the 5, I'd like for them to move their feet and not go after every block.

1 Woodard
2 McGusty
3 James
4 Doolittle
5 Lattin

Shep goes into 1, Woodard to 2
Odomes brings energy/defense off bench
Jamuni is first big in and I'd not be opposed to play both he and Lattin together

Those are my 8.

Shep
Woodard
James
Doolittle
lattin

Not trying to pick a fight just curious how this is our "best" lineup at the moment? After watching the last few games, Doolittle hasn't been aggressive on the boards at all and doesn't seem like he wants the ball in my opinion. And when he has it he seems to either a) want to get rid of it or b) shoot it from where he is because it's "what he's supposed to do". I'm not saying he won't improve because I expect him too. But as of now he would be coming off of my bench.

Very Similarly, Lattin hasn't shown all that much improvement to me from last year thus far. He still seems limited offensively and bullied at times when rebounding. He gets his blocks from time to time but in no way do I currently feel like he's settled in as a defensive stopper. Again I still feel the improvement will come but right now McNeace has earned the right to start at least the next game (practice may be a different story as well).

At the current moment, my "best" five going into next game based off the last few games would be:

Shepherd
Woodard
James (Could soon be replaced if shots don't start falling and/or cutting down on "baffling at times" turnovers. Plus I feel like his D needs to pick it up a little as well.
Odomes
McNeace

Buford shows offensive signs (at least more last game because the 3's were falling) but his defense leaves a LOT to be desired.

Lattin needs to get back to the "out work my opponent on every play" mentality

Doolittle- See Lattin

McGusty we still need to see more of IMO

Freeman and Strong-Moore will have games they help and others they don't which is perfectly fine.

Obviously this is all my opinion but just curious how some come to the conclusion of what is the "best" lineup we have.

Woodard
James
Odomes
Buford
Lattin

Buford looked lost on defense and offense. When he was in the game, guards drove to the basket and scored on him at will. He can't defend the post. He is not cut out to play post.

Three players should be in every lineup:

Woodard---our best player and only senior. Experience is invaluable.

James---our best shooter. Despite a dismal shooting performance in the WSU game, he's still averaging 47% from the field and 56% from three point range.

Odomes---our best scorer off of the dribble drive puts pressure on defenses like no one else on the team. He's also our best on the ball defender.

As much as I hate to say it ten games into the season, the other two spots are still up for grabs. Assuming LK is determined to move Woodard back to the wing where he seems to be more comfortable, I would go with Shepherd at the point. I think he earned the right to start over Strong in the Memphis game.

That leaves the five spot. Lattin doesn't play like a true five on offense. His strength is rebounding and blocking or changing shots. McNeace has a post game that is closer to what one would expect from a five. In my mind, he deserves a chance to start, based mostly on his performance in the Memphis game and in spots in other games of late.

I also like that pick because Lattin tends to get in early foul trouble. Coming off of the bench may relieve him of some of the pressure he feels trying to live up to the preseason hype even our coaches were a party to.

I'll take a stab

Shep
Woodard
James
Odomes
Lattin

Agree. Lattin's not playing like he's one of the best 5, but that's why the team is struggling.

Then there's McNeace, McGusty, and Doolittle. Freeman should probably get 4-6 minutes per game just to see if he can sink a couple 3's. There's no reason I can see for Buford or Strong-Moore to see the court in anything but garbage time (if Woodard's healthy and able to play).
