Thomas prediction thread

I don't think Thomas gets the waiver, but I really hope he does.

Last I heard, Calvin Simpson is fighting it..

Take this for what it's worth...I guess Sampson is butthurt because Thomas had promised to talk with him before he had made a final decision to leave. Thomas supposedly did not give kelvin the opportunity. I have to admit that it sounds about right for Sampson who is not a very pleasant man. Good coach, though.

It would be ironic if NCAA sided with Sampson after all he's pulled.

OU has been constantly screwed with this kind of stuff, in all sports. Wouldn't be surprised if he sits out. Someone in the OU compliance dept. needs to be replaced if they go 0-5 this year, especially with a fricken walk-on player and the run-off rule for DGB that they ruled IN FAVOR of at OSU. Allowing coaches to leave with no consequences but not players, after a coach is fired, is ridiculous. The NCAA screws athletes over, especially the ones who wont be making millions at the next level.

I'm not sure how OU Compliance is at fault.

Are you saying they are too honest?

If other teams are able to have the same types of waivers go through, and OU doesn't, something doesn't add up.

I'ma go out on a limb and say the ncaa screw us. See: Saunders 4 games, balogun, all football's this year Ect

There are hundreds of waivers a year that are denied...you just don't know about it because you don't follow the team that closely.

According to these 3 articles, the odds are about 50% but that includes those that are approved because they need to get closer to home for an ailing family member. Where things are headed now, no transfer will get immediate eligibility regardless of circumstances but they might receive a 6th year of eligibility.

First, according to this article, there aren't "hundreds" a year denied. This was published by ESPN in 2012 and shows the number of waiver requests in football and basketball over the previous 5 years. There are a lot of kids who talk about it but don't actually file for a waiver.

Waiver 5 Year History

In another more recent article from USA Today, they say basketball experiences 400 transfers a year (e.g. Hornbeak).

I like this statistic:
"According to NCAA data from July 2012 to June 2013, 39 of the 62 undergraduate men's basketball players who applied for waivers received them. Fifteen of 16 graduate men's basketball student transfers who applied for waivers were approved."

USA Today article: 39 of 62 basketball waivers approved last year

Finally, this is the recommendation from NCAA in April of this year, and would eliminate immediate eligibility completely. Under certain circumstances, a player could gain a 6th year. For example if a player redshirts as a freshman and plays a couple of years before transferring schools, he would have to sit out a year at the new school but could get a 6th year if needed to complete his 4 years of eligibility.

No More "Immediate Eligibility"

Don't think he will play this year but I'm not really basing that on anything, other than bad luck. Still, I'll take good news now over good news a year from now.

Nope.

Hope I'm wrong, b/c we really need him this year to truly take a step up to the next level as a team, but I just don't think he has a good enough reason.
