Tomorrow

I think Norm has the best potential starting line-up for next season based on common sense and logic.

Simply put, Sharane, over the last two years, has proven herself to be too valuable on the floor to be anything but a starter.

She shoots better than Nicole and Kay Kay. She rebounds better than Griffin and she is more versatile than both. She will start at the 3 or 4, depending upon what Sherri does with Maddie.

Frankly, I believe both Kay-Kay and Maddy will be brought along slowly so as not to risk re-injury.

Once Maddie is healthy. I would think she could move to the 3 or 4, depending upon freshman guard play. If the frosh don't come along fast, she could start out as Morgan's back up, I believe.

I'm pretty concerned about Kay-Kay's return. Achilles ruptures, as I have noted previously, are extremely difficult to come back from and it takes most people between one and two years to fully recover.

It does worry me that we will only have, what, 3 people 6-foot or better on the squad -- Nicole, Kay-Kay, Kellog and Manning? 4 with Kornet.

We need 4s and 5s more than we need guards. Not having them proved to be a problem in the tournaments.

Let's remember where we're coming from.

OU lost four players before the year really got underway. Three were rather key players.

Baylor had a lot of what we thought we wanted. Baylor had the interior giant, the power forwards, the McDonald's All-Americans.

OU made it into the Sweet Sixteen.
Baylor made it into the Sweet Sixteen.

Strangely enough, both events were cheered. OU was praised for its efforts. But, the Baylor loss evoked a response that I really hadn't seen before. On HoopScoop, which is a Big Twelve board on which all things Big Twelve are praised, the Baylor loss was cheered by all except two posters.

Griner even got some praise for her growing up. But, I haven't seen such a unanimous reaction on any negative activity to happen in sports. The hostility towards Kim is different from anything that I can remember in sports. It's not like hating the Yankees. The antipathy rivals only attitudes towards international politics.

It suddenly seems very good to be OU. At least, when we win, nobody is simply waiting for our next stumble.

OU football/Switzer in the 80s was hated across the country. Miami football/Jimmy Johnson was hated across the country in the 90s. Bob Kight has been hated for decades. Others could be named. People love to see their rivals go down, particularly when the rival is winning at a high level and even more so when we think they are arrogant, brash, and intolerable. Switzer, Johnson, Knight, and Kim all have something in common, they are great coaches and they don't care what others think. That just makes beating them that much sweeter.

I haven't seen that board, but I did take a look at a couple of other Big 12 schools' boards. Tech's in particular was overjoyed. They didn't like us much 10 years ago, but I think any of those wounds were long since healed - especially after that girl from TT got decked by Griner and got little (if any) punishment from BU.

I think the antipathy towards Kim was increased exponentially by Kim's remarks after round one of the Big 12 tournament (where she ranted about only getting two players on the all-conference team). A lot of people saw that as disrespecting the players on other teams who made it, and the coaches that chose them. Kim promotes an "us against the world" philosophy which has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Back on topic, I'm pleased with the recent two commitments, although I know that one of those girls won't get here until the fall of 2014.

It's also good to know that at least one more coach in Oklahoma isn't steering his/her players away from OU. It's not something I can definitely prove, but it's at least pretty obvious that it's happened to OU football at different schools (at one time Lawton High's head honcho did, although LHS has tons of OU alumni among its grads and former players; Millwood in football, and I suspect Sapulpa in girls' basketball).
