1.) Billy Gillespie (Unemployed)
2.) Greg Marshall (Wichita State)
3.) Terry Evans (UCO)
4.) Johnny Jones (UNT)

All of these guys are in the area, have been highly successful in this area, and have a particular style that the fans here want. They can all recruit Texas and the local kansas/texas jucos.

I would be a-ok with any of these coaches.

Gillespie and Marshall are the best, followed by Evans and Jones.

Johnny Jones has led North Texas to 6 straight 20+ win seasons.... They have gone to some NCAA Tournaments. He recruits to a Sun Belt school extremely well. For 2-3 years in a row they have been top 5 in the country in free throws attempted, so that tells me he throws it in the post and attacks the rim as a style.

Evans plays Billy Ball, wins 85% of his games at UCO, but might not be ready for a Big 12 gig yet.

Gillespie is ready for the big time as we all know.

Marshall has been to the NCAA Tournament a bunch, wins at WSU every year, and is ready for the Big time as well.

Notice that all of these guys are in the area... I think thats important.

These guys are very successful coaches who already recruit Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, etc. They arent east coast guys meeting AAU coaches, players, high school coaches, etc for the first time.

I think thats important if you dont hire a HUGE name.

agree. 100%

I mentioned this in another thread, but what about a UT or KU assistant? I've heard one or two of the UT names thrown about, so I guess they are ready. No idea about KU. That would be somebody from a winning program, that can recruit around here, and that understands the Big 12.

I don't think we need another coach who is going to learn on the job; would prefer an established guy over the "hotshot" assistant

Buzz Williams, he grew up in Texas and graduated from OCU. Lots of rumors that he is lobbying for the job.

I will be beyond happy if we get Buzz Williams

Dooley is the only guy I could see anyone having interest in at KU. Known for being a tireless recruiter.

Brent Williams would be a solid hire, I would be happy with him

I have to admit none of the four listed excite me too much. Even though the program is in shambles at the moment we could do better.

Throw Dave Rose in there. He has Texas ties if that's what you want. I also wouldn't be mad if we took a look at Larry Eustachy. USM is a horrible program and he has them very competitive with very little talent.

I wonder if Counzo Martin will get a look, Keady cadet. I think he would be a god fit, there are other good names on this thread as well. I wish we had the money to swoon Tubby but i dont see that happening. He makes approximately 3.3 per year.

please take Terry Evans out of that group. If Capel wasn't ready then TE is not even close to being ready.

I think Buzz Williams is realistic. I would replace his name for Terry Evans on your list.

If we hire Gillispie, I will be disgusted. The guy is a drunkard who couldn't even get it done at UK. I could have done a better job than he did at UK. Just pitiful. The other guys are blah, too.

Be prepared to be humbled again, just like we were when KS left and literally no big time coach had any interest in playing second or third fiddle in Norman.

OMG

Tubbs was not a big time coach when he came to OU. Kelvin was not a big time coach when he came to OU.

And we have, and have had, plenty of coaches at OU that had as much baggage as Gillispie.
