rewatching the game. Something sticks out in my mind:

Instead of just being a Sooner legend, Trae could end up being an NCAA legend. Like the way we talk about Pistol Pete or Larry Johnson or Lou Alcindor or Pearl or Magic or Bird.

Trae could be one of those names.

2 or even 3 years could make him one of those all-timers. He could be like an oscar robertson.

he needs to stay.

oh, and here's the link to the game

If the guys finish after his passes he is going to lead the nation in assists and points. That will make him a legend in one year. I hope he stays because OU will be sick next year. They will improve leaps and bounds as a defensive team

He definitely should have had a triple double today. Well over four assists left on the court.

It would not surprise me to see him stay. Nothing about Trae Young has been conventional so far. He has always impressed me as a goal-oriented young man who knows exactly what he wants to accomplish in life, and in his college and professional career. I think Trae is having a ball, as an amateur college BB player, not a future NBA Star. Is that one of his ultimate goals? Of course. I just don’t believe as most seem to do that he’s in big hurry to get there.

A final four, replacing KU as the Big 12 Conference Champion, winning a NCAA individual honor, etc. could be enough to satisfy him. It’s also possible getting the opportunity to play for the right team may be more than he could turn down.

The lure of being a top ten pick and the money that goes with it, could be more important to him than I realize. If so, who can blame him? I just happen to believe there are more important things to Trae than the lure of money and the bright lights of a big city somewhere. Members of his family, Oklahoma University, and his teammates and his coaches come immediately to mind.

Guess we’ll know in a few weeks if I am right or totally clueless about the most important things to OU’s next National POY candidate.

I agree with everything you've said, Ada. The way he spoke after the game about how much fun he's having this season supports your stance. I try not to get my hopes up too much, but I don't think his departure after this season for the greener pastures of the NBA is necessarily a done deal.

Trae is not coming back.
I was also completely sure he wasn't coming to OU after not signing early.

Trae is the Barry Sanders of basketball. A bright star that'll leave, in a single season, a mark on college bball forever.

I get what you are saying but Sanders played three years at OSU and backed up Thurman Thomas. The year before Sanders had his great year a local reporter ask Switzerland how OU would stop Thomas. Switzerland said I am not sure but I really hope we don't hurt him because I think his back up is better.

We'd have to lose the big 12 by 1 game, and also have Trae not be a lock for a top 10 pick for him to come back.

That's a strong statement from a country that historically has been neutral.:D

If Trae decides to stay another year....I will gladly eat my shoe.

I remember eating crow when Trae declared for OU tasting very much like quail.

I'd be fine with him leaving after this year. All I ask in return is a final four first

He is definitely attached to OU much more than most one-and-done guys are attached to their schools. That said, the logical choice is for him to leave. In fact, barring some change down the stretch, there's really no reason for him to stay from a business perspective. I'll expect him to leave then, no matter how much I'd like to read into his comments that he is staying. For now, I'll just enjoy getting a chance to watch him play here this season because it truly is special.

Yup. This is going to be an awesome season. I think most of us thought that we would be good this year, and a Sweet 16 run was on the table, but the real successes would happen next year. Instead, that timeline has just been moved up a year. We are legit threats for the conference championship and a deep run in March.

I am pretty sure the Young family can afford to insure him. Rayford got paid to play ball for a while and I believe he has been successful after basketball. Probably won't change things but I think Trae might have some options that are not necessarily available to everyone.

IIRC, the school is allowed to pay for the premium on these insurance policies ](or loan the amount). So this option is available for anyone who is good enough to merit this type of policy.
