Tulsa earned a 5 seed in the NIT and plays at 4 seed Kent State Wednesday evening. ORU was left out of all postseason tournaments despite winning 20 games. I was kind of surprised they didn't get into the CBI or CollegeInsider tournament.

Don't you basically pay to get into the CBI?

ORU probably doesn't have the money to pony up.

I think so. I think they did make an effort to get into one of these tournaments though because there is a story on TW.com with quotes from Sutton about how he was disappointed they were left out.

Interesting.

I almost wonder if the CBI is like a "bid" situation, similar to college baseball regionals.

You propose a "package" to the CBI that includes your $ amount, plus other things like estimated attendence, etc.

Perhaps you submit your "bid" and then they announce whether or not you're included.

I'd say that's probably a pretty good bet. That CollegeInsider tournament may have been a better fit than the CBI because the Insider tourney seems to cater exclusively to smaller colleges.

With teams losing money last year with the CBI, you would figure not a lot of teams would want to pony up the money to host. Only 1 team with a losing record (Oregon St, who did win it last year) is in AND hosting.

The fact UNC got into the NIT should once and for all illustrate how much of a joke that tournament is.

NIT= Not In Tournament

That really surprises me that UNC got in. I thought the NIT was supposed to use an NCAA selection committee type process now?

Off-Topic, but with all of these new postseason tournaments, is there any doubt that the "bowl system" would survive a college football playoff?

It should be noted that UNC's fans quit going to their games in droves and that very few showed up for the conference tournament. Time to knock down UNC fans as being good....they aren't UK, KU fans, etc.

I agree with this. To their credit, they did play some tough games and win a few of them. I mean, they are probably a better team than someone like ORU.

UNC got in the NIT simply because of their name. The NIT will probably never have another chance at getting them ever again. I think ORU could beat them.
