Tyler Neal or Dave Sieger?

Never thought about it before. But, yes, I do like the comparison. I actually think Tyler may be more athletic than Sieger. Clearly he has a way to go to be as good. But with his upside, I like his chances. Sieger was one heck of a player and a joy to watch!

Sieger benefitted from the fact that all he was required to do really was launch three-pointers and play some defense.

Pretty much all Neal is doing as well, no? Rebounding a bit, but no more than Sieger, I wouldn't guess.

They need Tyler to do more than just shoot threes and play a little D. That team Sieger was on was so loaded they didn't need him to do anything else.

I believe Tyler will do more in time. He's still a baby in terms of playing time and experience.

Like what?

Continue to improve his defense and contribute to our offense in more ways than taking shots from behind the arc. He's come a long way since the beginning of the season. I doubt if many of us thought he would score 18 points in any game this year, much less so early in the season.

Hmmm.....

Sieger averaged 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2 steals per game his senior year. Everybody remembers him as a "shooter", but the guy was pretty solid all around. He was just overshadowed by bigger names. Don't sell him short though.

Wow, didn't know "Soul Man" had those kinds of numbers. He's definitely under-rated.

Heck of a lot more possessions up and down the floor back then though. To average 103 points a game like that '88 team did you've got to account for each team putting up at least 75 shots a game, and sometimes MANY more.

Sieger was a hell of a player. His ability to be back there and help allowed Mookie to sell out for the steal.

I am sure Dave Sieger was a very good high school basketball player but I wonder if he was as good as Tyler Neal.

Neal was the gatorade player of the ear in Oklahoma averaging 18.5 per game with 8.9 boards, 1.4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks a game. Those are very strong numbers, especially his scoring. Neal shot .557 from the floor and over 42% from 3 as a senior. This is a guy that can score a lot of points. I think he has a chance to be a really nice player for OU.

Sieger was definitely smarter. I'll promise you that.

:)

Sieger is an engineer if I remember correctly.

He was one of the best role players OU ever had.

Sieger actually graduated from OU with a 4.0 in engineering. In my opinion that is impressive for anyone. To do it while committing countless hours to basketball is even more impressive. I also believe that Dave Sieger went on to get a Phd in engineering.
