Uh Oh, Clippers owner

Which is worse? Terrible terrible racist comments or actually putting peoples lives in danger?

1) Dennis Rodman - He has been arrested twice for domestic violence, twice for drunken driving, obstructing justice, domestic dispute, and had police come to his house over 70 times for noise violations at his Newport Beach house.

2) James Worthy -- So, when he was arrested in a police sting for soliciting prostitution in Houston it was understandably embarrassing for both the league and Worthy.

3) Allen Iverson -- The charges included assault, weapons offenses and terrorist threats because he allegedly threw his wife out of the house during a fight and threatened two men with a gun while looking for her again

4) DeShawn Stevenson -- In 2001 as a rookie with the Utah Jazz, Stevenson admitted to taking a 14-year-old girl back to a hotel room, getting her drunk and having consensual sex with her.

5) Isaiah Rider was arrested roughly 832 times while he was in the NBA

6) Ruben Patterson -- In 2001, Patterson plead guilty to attempting to rape his child's nanny in September of 2000.

Again, I ask is a racial slur worse than putting someones life in danger?

Putting someone's life in danger is worse. And it shouldn't even be close. So again I ask, why does nobody want irsay to sell the Colts?

For the NBA...an owner spouting racist remarks is of more concern than player behavior.

b/c racism is the attention getter in this society. An owner getting a girl pregnant and her getting an abortion would get less covereage than an old man that made racist comments (and in the racial slurs department, what I have see are rather tame).

No one said a racial slur was worse than putting someone's life in danger.

[what exactly have i been typing?

That an owner shouldn't be forced to sell HIS team bc he is racist?
That racist words doesn't compare to abuse, drunk driving, or rape?
That this is blown out of proportion?

I'll say any of that to anyone's face.

So the NFL player making bomb threats at an international Airport is getting off failry scott free which is a federal crime. What is the crime for being an ignorant prick. He needs to be punished in some form or fashion. But what is the crime and what is the punishment?

What do you feel is fair punishment for this?

I hope he keeps the team, no good players will go there and he is left with a NBDL league team. They will then lose and the team value will go down for future sales. If he sells now he will make a ton. Espn radio said he bought it for 15 mill and worth around 750 mil now.

I will say it "I'm not a racist", I am not defending Sterling. Everything they can do should be done against him. But, I also believe a person has free speech and is free from getting taped (illegaly) at supposily his own home during a private conversation and it being used against him. I have said some things in my own home, mostly at the TV sceen during a football game, that I would not like taped and played for the world. More cussing then I want to admit too. But I expect that my girlfriend, and now wife would not tape them.

Again he is caught dead to rights and should be punished, the problem is what punishment fits the crime and what can they legaly do against him.

If he keeps the team and no players sign with then, I think that would be funny and he would deserve it. But they will, money talks even if its from racist old farts.

The fact that he has the right to free speech doesn't absolve him from the consequences of his speech.

I would love it if Blake Griffin beat the crap out of me.

Two words: Early Retirement

Come on, boca. I've defended you on this board numerous times. But when you start calling your fellow posters "ignorant racists" and "ignorant white trash"…well, I'd say it puts you on about the same level as that Clippers owner you're discussing.

Boca has been duly warned for his attack. If he does it again, he's gone! End of story.

I agree. I think he should be punished. I think he should be baned from any team interaction( including attending games) for a time period of 5 years. He is an old man, if he is not trying to hand the team over to family, he will sell on his own at this point. I think forcing to sell just gives him to much leverage and he will make to much money off of it.

Again I think it would be really funny if he keeps it and it ends up a glorified NBDL league as players don't sign with him. Team loses value and he sells at a lower value. Best for everyone. But won't happen.

So, we have a fellow poster that is potential racist and has def said racist comments in this thread but doesn't get banned from the forum and we expect sterling to lose the clippers? Seriously? No way he should be forced to sale. He is what he is, a racist. Now going forward players have to decide if they want to work for him

I don't follow the NBA closely, but isn't he supposed to be one of the worst owners in the NBA as far as putting competitive teams on the field? Does he even care whether the Clippers win or not as long as he makes money?

I agree that it would be funny if any players whose contracts were expiring would leave for other teams and all free agents would sign elsewhere, but I'm not sure he would care.

He can't be forced to sell, that isn't even an option.

It depends on the ownership structure of the league, which I'm sure is complex. But equity partners in accounting and law firms can be forced out by their partners. Had the NBA been created in the last 30 years, I can guarantee you that fellow owners would have the ability to boot a colleague, but since the NBA was created in the stone age, it's quite possible that nothing of the sort exists.

Also, why is Bounce still allowed on this board?
