Umoja Gibson / Jamal Bienemy

ill take Gibson. More explosive. Better scorer. Maybe not as good as a defender.

Were we already in the running for UG or did we get him primarily/entirely because JB left?

If we have to compare, you take Gibson every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I think it depends on whether Gibson has to sit out a year or not.

Gibson for me too. Gibson is a better scorer, with a 14.5 game average last year. In a head to head game last December, Gibson scored 21; JB scored 3. Gibson averaged better than 39% from three last season; Bieniemy averaged just over 25%.

JB may be a better defender. Stats show JB is a better rebounder with a 4 rpg average; Gibson averaged 2.2 rpg. Free throw shooting is a wash. They both shoot around 80%.

If I had my choice, I would have preferred to see Bieniemy and Gibson on the same team. Unfortunately, JB didn’t see it that way.

Cosigned.

OU was 58th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 29th in adjusted defensive efficiency this past season. This team needs more consistent offense and we are getting offense with this guy. He is an above average defender as well....at least according to what I've read on him.

Do you prefer offense or defense?

It’ll be interesting to see how we hold up with Harmon and Gibson together. Price and White did okay.

I think JB has better upside, Gibson has a better mentality. So I’ll go with Gibson.

Almost impossible to say just based on stats, and I’ve not seen him play nearly enough to have an informed opinion. Remember, Calixte was a big-time scorer against weaker competition before coming to Norman. North Texas plays better competition than Calixte did, but it’s still comparing apples to oranges if you just look at Gibson’s stats and compare them to JB’s.

I’m certainly encouraged by Gibson’s shooting percentages from 3 and the line, but it would be nice if he got to the line more often.

JB got to the line about as many times as you and me. He was a net loss most games this year because his offense was high school level bad. Similar to Andre Roberson, it doesn’t matter how good you are on 1 end if you can’t do much on the other end.

JB has no significant upside... Im not even sure I've seen him dunk a ball in two years. I mean, I hate to say it but he doesn't appear to be very skilled or very athletic. He's tall and long, smart player, but his best asset is his bball iq. That's a great thing to have, but his skill and athletic limitations don't present a lot of upside.

Gibson has had better coaching. Hopefully Lon's offense and coaching don't suck the life out of him.

Bienemy was an okay defender but he just wasn't there offensively. He wasn't even a good facilitator on offense. The only thing he really had was decent defense and to me that's a bench guy or a guy you stick on a team with good offensive weapons around him and just use him to shoot a corner 3 once in a while not a guy you basically use as a point guard. We will need some scoring at guard next year because we just lacked that ability for the most part. Harmon needs to step up as a scorer too.

He was athletic, he just didn’t let loose which was the mentality I was talking about. He was long, athletic, and smooth, he’d do a move or have a half that made people go “we got a player”. Then he’d disappear on offense for 2-3 games, which was very frustrating.

He could’ve been a great player, he just didn’t have the scoring mentality needed to let the average fan see his worth. He was Cousins without the work ethic, confidence & dog mentality. Which is nearly impossible to coach up.

If he’d have averaged 10 ppg people would compliment his defense & steadiness. Instead they say “he was okay defensively but overall he hurt the team”. I’m just waiting for the day people appreciate amazing defensive players with limited offensive abilities equal to great offensive players who don’t try at defense. Give me Andre Roberson over Nick Young everyday.

Do you believe Jamal played on a guard oriented team (3 guards, 2 forwards)?

He played on a perimeter oriented team.

Andre Roberson played alongside Durant and Westbrook, in addition to others who could score, thus his role did not have to match that of other teammates. Same thing goes for Rodman when he played with Pippen and Jordan. We did not have that luxury thus some things are more exposed.

I'm glad message boards weren't around during Stacey King's collegiate career. Most of you would have said Stacey was a bust after his sophomore year and if he had transferred you would have been absolutely thrilled.

I have no idea why Bienemy decided to transfer. I know he was an asset while he was here although he obviously wasn't perfect enough to please many of you. The good news for you is you have 7 months (or more) to decide who you are going to complain about next season.

One of the true MVPs of this board.
