ESPNU telecast at noon today according to Soonersports.com

Australia leads by a point at the half. The USA team couldn't have played any worse if they had tried deliberately to do so. Our point guard play has been pathetic, more concerned with getting their own shot than with finding someone open. People taking stupid shots. We played no defense at all for most of the first quarter. Should have benched the entire starting unit with two minutes gone, just to get their attention.

Let's see if they can get an open shot, play a little defense, and quit throwing up off balance shots that have no chance. Are they looking for the officials to bail them out?

USA 79-78

The USA played horribly in the first and last seven minutes of the game. Sims had a good game on her birthday. Plaisance did well. At times, Lewis did well. Nobody else really did. Bradford had some hustle when we fell behind 78-76 to get the last three points, a free throw and a putback. A bad call almost cost the US at the end.

Sherri should have left Massingale in Tennessee.

I thought the comment about the 'NetBall' that the Australians play (in elementary school?) was interesting. It sounds like a good game for kids to play to improve their passing skills. Interesting game played with what appears to be a basketball goal and no backboard.

NetBall, is played all the way through to a womans pro league in Australia. Watched a few games on the tv while in Geelong 2 weeks ago a very strange game impo. They catch the ball within so many feet of the basket an you can not try a block the shot

Per attached only two players can score from the semicircle and only two players can attempt to block shooter shot but they must be 3' away from the shooter when attempting the block.

Scoring goals[edit]

Attempts at scoring goals during a junior netball match in Australia
Only the Goal Attack and Goal Shooter are able to score goals directly,[38] and this may only be done from the inside of the semicircle. The job of the Goal Defence and Goal Keeper is to block the Goal Attack and Goal Shooter from shooting; however, they must be three feet or more away from the landing foot of the shooter, otherwise it is called an obstruction. In this penalty situation, the Goal Keeper or Goal Defence must stand by the shooter's side for a penalty pass or shot, and must remain out of play until the ball is thrown. A ball that passes through the hoop, but has been thrown either from outside the circle or by a player other than the two shooters, is deemed a "no goal". Furthermore, a shooter (GA or GS) may not shoot for a goal if a "free pass" has been awarded for an infringement such as stepping, offside, or using the post.[39]

If a player completely misses a shot, the player may not catch it; if she does, it is called a "replay", and a free pass is awarded to the other team.[39] If the ball is deflected off the goal keeper or goal defence and goes through the goal ring. This is not a goal and play goes on.

Thanks for the info on the game, still a strange thing to watch

Sims took over this game she had that look in her eyes that No one was going to stop her. She's also fiery and was seen pushing back and forth with one of the players from Australia. Baylor could be near the top of the big 12 again next year.

She did play very well for part of the 4th quarter. She also had a couple of dumb plays that helped Australia get back into the game late.
