Better conference - Meaningless. They just play an awesome out of conference schedule and get their exposure that way.

Better salary - Calipari was making $2mil. Has an OU coach ever made more?
Better tradition - edge Memphis. In my lifetime they have more elite 8s and more final 4s and for good measure they beat us head to head twice when we had Wayman and they had Keith Lee.

Now the more important parts you left out:

Better talent - Memphis and this is not close.
Better fanbase - Memphis has been averaging over 17k per game.

Calipari was interested because he thought Oklahoma could pay a lot and would because of what Stoops makes. He was interested but he wanted 2.3 million.
