I suppose it's possible if you get a guy like JJ Reddick who isn't really a one and done type, but can score from day 1. The rule changes might help. But to put Wayman's record in perspective, if Buddy plays 19 more games (would be a run to bot the Big 12 and NCAA title games), he could average 30 ppg and still fall 200 short of Wayman's record.
Finally, if Wayman had come back for his senior season, he would have had a shot at breaking Pete Maravich's all time scoring record (3,667). Wayman would have needed just a little over 1,000. That would have been a lot, but I think Billy would have tried to let him get it.
Putting things in perspective.....Maravich played only 83 games in three seasons to Wayman's 104. Freshman were ineligible then and there was no three point line. His career average was 44 ppg.
